That does not, by itself, mean your save has been deleted. Downloaded-game saves are stored on your PS4 or PS5; streamed-game saves are stored in PlayStation’s game-streaming storage. Keep the save, and you may be able to use it again if you buy the game while it is still available and the version is compatible.
What changes when a game leaves the catalog?
Game Catalog access is a subscription benefit, not ownership of each included game. PlayStation Plus Extra includes Game Catalog access, and Premium includes Extra benefits. Sony says some Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles have end dates; check the current US catalog listing for a specific title and its removal date. Removing a game from the catalog ends access through that benefit, even if its files remain on your console.
Membership status is a separate issue: if your membership lapses, subscription benefits are unavailable while it is inactive. Sony’s general information does not establish a universal retention period for every save, so do not assume either that a save will be kept forever or that ending catalog access deletes it. Where your save is stored depends on how you play

How to preserve or move a save
Before a title’s removal date, check that the latest save is stored where you expect. For a downloaded game, upload it to cloud storage if you want a copy available to restore or use on another console. For a streamed game, use the streaming save-management options and copy the data to Online Storage if you need to move it. Sony’s menus can change; follow the live support guide for current button-by-button instructions.
Upload a downloaded save
- PS5, PS4 game: Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4) > Upload or Delete from Console Storage > Upload to Cloud Storage.
- PS4: Library > highlight the game > OPTIONS > Upload/Download Saved Data > Upload.
Move a streamed save
While streaming, open the PlayStation Plus card or Application Saved Data Management and manage the save from there. The route differs between PC, PS5, and PS4 streaming; use Sony’s guide to select the instructions for your setup. To restore a downloaded save, download the cloud copy to console storage. For streaming, copy the save back to Game Streaming Storage.

Can you play again after removal?
If the game remains available for purchase on PlayStation Store, buying it may let you access the retained save again. Sony stated in its May 23, 2022 guide that a player who purchases an available title can access the save again, provided the saved data has not been deleted: PlayStation’s guide to the all-new PlayStation Plus.
This is not a guarantee that every removed game remains for sale, or that every edition or console version can use the same save. Check the title’s current Store availability, platform, edition, and save compatibility before buying. Keep local and cloud saves rather than deleting them when catalog access ends.

One dated offline-validation detail
In its May 23, 2022 guide, Sony said downloaded Extra, Premium, and Deluxe catalog games needed PSN validation every seven days, while that requirement did not apply to Essential monthly downloadable games. This is a dated policy statement, not a confirmed universal rule for current service conditions; consult Sony’s current terms rather than relying on the 2022 interval for present-day offline play.
