Gerrit, GitLab, and Jenkins can be combined, but they do not form one verified, automatic integration. Gerrit can replicate selected Git refs to a remote repository; Jenkins can start jobs from Gerrit review events; and GitLab can separately trigger Jenkins from selected GitLab events and display Jenkins-reported status. Configure and test each connection independently—especially whether a push from Gerrit replication triggers the GitLab event you expect.
What each integration does
| Connection | What it does | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Gerrit replication to a remote Git repository | Pushes configured refs from Gerrit’s managed repositories to one or more remote destinations. See Gerrit’s replication configuration. | It does not, by itself, configure Jenkins to run on a review event or prove that a GitLab event will trigger a job. |
| Gerrit events to Jenkins | The Jenkins Gerrit Trigger plugin listens for selected Gerrit events and starts matching jobs. | It is distinct from mirroring repository refs to GitLab. |
| GitLab events to Jenkins, with status reported back | GitLab’s Jenkins integration can trigger jobs for selected GitLab events and show Jenkins status in GitLab. | It does not establish that Gerrit’s replicated push will always invoke that integration in every deployment. |
The key design decision is where a build should start. Use Gerrit events when validation should respond to code-review activity. Use GitLab events when the relevant event is a push, merge request, or tag push in GitLab. Replication moves refs; event integrations decide when Jenkins runs.
Choose where Jenkins should listen
Run jobs from Gerrit review events
The Gerrit Trigger plugin supports events such as patch-set creation, change merge, comments, and ref updates. This is the direct route when Jenkins needs to react to a proposed change or another Gerrit review action, rather than wait for a mirrored repository event.
- In Gerrit, arrange an account for Jenkins with the Stream Events capability. The plugin documentation recommends putting a CI user in Gerrit’s Service Users group and configuring repository permissions as needed.
- In Jenkins, configure the Gerrit connection and test it.
- For each job, enable the Gerrit event trigger and select the events, project patterns, and branch patterns that should match.
- Submit or perform a change matching those settings, then verify that the event reaches Jenkins and starts the intended job.
Choose event filters deliberately: for example, a job intended to validate each patch set should not be configured as if it only needs to run on a merge. The plugin documentation describes supported events and configuration at Gerrit Trigger.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Run jobs from GitLab events
GitLab’s documented Jenkins integration is a separate route. Its setup involves granting Jenkins access to the GitLab project with a personal, project, or group access token with API scope; configuring the Jenkins GitLab plugin and its credential; configuring the Jenkins project; and enabling the GitLab integration events you want. The documented event selections include push, merge request, and tag push.
- Set up the GitLab access token and configure the corresponding credential and plugin in Jenkins.
- Configure the Jenkins project and select the GitLab events that should trigger it.
- Run a test event from GitLab and confirm that Jenkins receives it.
- Confirm that Jenkins status is reported where expected in GitLab. Pipeline jobs need explicit status updates in the pipeline script.
GitLab documents a webhook alternative using a generated secret token and a Jenkins job trigger URL. If using that approach, protect the token and check network reachability, credentials and permissions, authentication for Jenkins’ /project endpoint, status updates through the Commit Status API, and webhook timeouts. GitLab lists disabling SSL verification as a setting, but that has security implications; do not treat it as a default fix. Refer to the GitLab Jenkins integration guide for its configuration details and troubleshooting guidance.

Configure Gerrit replication to a GitLab repository
Gerrit’s replication plugin can push changes from Gerrit’s managed Git repositories to configured remote destinations. It uses Git refspecs to define what is copied, and a remote can have multiple destination URLs. The plugin documentation covers the configuration format in Replication Configuration.
Select the refs to replicate
Set an explicit ref policy that matches what Jenkins or GitLab needs. For example, the documented refspecs +refs/heads/*:refs/heads/* and +refs/tags/*:refs/tags/* copy branches and tags. Those patterns do not include Gerrit’s refs/changes/*, so do not assume a branches-and-tags mirror contains Gerrit’s review refs or all review state.

The leading + permits force updates. That can replace remote branch history, so decide whether Gerrit is meant to control the destination as a mirror or whether other users and systems will also push there. Check branch protections, existing refs, tags, and other writers before enabling a force-update policy.
Prepare destination access
Use the actual GitLab project destination URL and credentials with write access to that project. The Gerrit replication documentation describes generic remote Git replication, not a GitLab-specific recipe; hosting mode and repository settings can affect what the destination accepts.

For SSH replication, the Gerrit service account needs an appropriate key-based connection, and the destination host key must be present in that account’s ~/.ssh/known_hosts. Establish and test SSH trust before relying on replication. For HTTP credentials, follow the plugin’s separate secure-configuration guidance rather than placing secrets in broadly readable configuration.
Verify the complete route without assuming events propagate
The product documentation describes replication, Gerrit event triggers, and GitLab’s Jenkins integration separately. It does not establish that a Gerrit replication push to a GitLab project will always be treated as the GitLab push event that invokes Jenkins. The result depends on the target repository, access and event configuration, and deployed setup.

- Test Gerrit-to-Jenkins delivery with a review event and confirm the intended job and filters.
- Test Gerrit-to-remote replication and confirm that only the intended refs arrive at the destination.
- If GitLab is also expected to trigger Jenkins, test a push to the target GitLab project and verify the trigger and job behavior.
- Test Jenkins status publication separately, including any explicit status-update logic required by a Pipeline job.
Record the deployed versions and relevant project, ref, and event settings for the route you have verified. If one logical change travels through both Gerrit and GitLab event paths, check whether it starts duplicate builds and choose a single source of truth or deliberately account for both.
Recover or resynchronize replication
Gerrit’s replication plugin supports manual runs for recovery or synchronization. The documented replication start command can target configured destinations and project patterns. Using it requires administrator membership or the plugin’s Start Replication capability; see the replication start command documentation for command details.
Keep GitLab CI/CD pipeline triggering separate
GitLab’s Jenkins integration connects GitLab events to Jenkins and can report Jenkins status back to GitLab. It cannot be used to trigger GitLab CI/CD pipelines from Jenkins. For that direction, GitLab points to its pipeline triggers API and a pipeline trigger token; it is a different integration path from the Jenkins job trigger.
