How do I change privacy settings on Meta glasses?
Meta directs users to the Meta AI app to manage preferences for captures, voice, notifications, and information shared with Meta. Open the app, select your connected glasses or device settings, and review the controls available there. Treat this as a place to inspect the options, not a guaranteed sequence of taps: Meta’s guidance does not give one stable menu path for every app version and device.
Meta announced in 2025 that people using Meta View could continue managing AI glasses through the Meta AI app as paired devices, settings, and media moved to the app’s Devices tab. The transition and current labels may vary as the app updates. Meta’s Meta AI app announcement describes that change.
How do I turn off the camera on Meta glasses?
Review the capture controls in the connected device settings and use the options shown for your model. The available official guidance does not establish a universal camera-off switch or a model-independent set of steps, so do not assume that a control with a capture-related label disables every camera feature.

It also helps to distinguish three separate actions:
- Gallery capture or streaming: taking photos or videos, or streaming, is a capture activity. Meta says the notification and capture LEDs activate for gallery capture or streaming.
- AI camera interpretation: asking Meta AI to interpret what the camera sees is not necessarily the same as saving or sharing a gallery photo. Ray-Ban says some newer models do not activate the capture LED during AI camera use when the content is not intended for sharing.
- Sharing: choosing to send or post media onward is a separate action from capturing or transferring it.
Because the indicator behavior depends on the activity and device generation, an unlit capture LED should not be treated as a complete indication that no camera-related AI interaction is taking place. Are Meta glasses photos shared automatically?
Meta says photos and videos stay on the glasses until you transfer them to your phone using the Meta AI app. Once transferred, they are stored in the phone’s photo roll. Transfer is not the same as posting to social media: Meta’s description does not say that moving a capture to the phone automatically shares it elsewhere.

This is Meta’s statement in its AI-glasses privacy FAQ. After a transfer, decide separately whether to share, send, or post the media from the phone.
How do I turn off voice controls or microphone access?
In the Meta AI app, inspect the voice preferences for your connected glasses and use the controls actually offered for your model. Meta’s general guidance identifies voice as a preference users can manage, but the reviewed sources do not specify a stable step-by-step route or establish that disabling voice control turns off every microphone function.

Calls, audio playback, and other features may behave separately from voice controls. Check the descriptions in your app before changing a setting, and do not assume one voice option governs every use of the microphones.

Meta says users can delete voice recordings with Meta AI, but its reviewed guidance does not provide a stable, model-independent deletion path. Look for the available voice-recording controls in the current app. Meta says deletion does not immediately change model behavior, but that deleted information will not be used for future training; this is Meta’s description of how deletion works.

What does the capture light tell people nearby?
Meta’s general guidance says a capture LED lights to let people nearby know when the camera is in use, and it says notification and capture LEDs activate for gallery capture or streaming. Ray-Ban’s FAQ qualifies that picture for some newer models: AI camera use may not activate the capture LED when the interaction is not intended to create content for sharing.
So the light is a useful signal for bystanders, not a full privacy dashboard. Its meaning depends on whether the glasses are capturing or streaming media, using an AI camera feature, and which generation of device is involved.
How to use the glasses considerately
- Ask people for permission before taking photos or videos, and avoid places where people reasonably expect privacy.
- Do not deliberately cover the capture LED. Meta says covering it can prevent photo or video capture and that deliberately doing so violates its guidelines.
- Check the exact model and the current app controls before relying on a setting or indicator; the product name “Nova” is not confirmed by the official pages cited here.
