There is no confirmed firmware range that the available project documentation establishes for both PS2 and original Xbox emulation on PS5. PS5SX2 reports tests on several firmware versions, but XPSemu’s README does not publish a supported-firmware list. A jailbreak that works on a given firmware does not, by itself, prove either emulator will run there.
What firmware information is available?
The projects document firmware support differently. PS5SX2 reports development and tester firmware details; XPSemu says it requires a jailbroken PS5 but does not specify compatible firmware versions. The comparison below separates those claims from other requirements.

What firmware does PS5SX2 support?
The [project README](https://github.com/PS5-Homebrew/PS5SX2) says development used a PS5 Pro on firmware 11.40 and that testers ran the emulator on other PS5 models, including a Slim, on firmware 6.02 to 12.70. Read this as the firmware information the project reports—not as a guarantee that every firmware from 6.02 through 12.70, every console model, or every jailbreak setup is compatible.
PS5SX2 is a native PS5 port of PCSX2. It depends on more than the console’s firmware: the project also lists its Helper payload, kstuff, ShadowMountPlus, and user-supplied PS2 files as prerequisites. Check the current project instructions and build requirements for the exact console before trying to run it.

PS5 RetroArch is a separate possible route for PS2 emulation: its release notes include LRPS2 and describe developer testing of PS2 gameplay. Those notes are alpha documentation and do not provide an emulator-specific firmware matrix that answers the combined PS2-and-Xbox question. Check the current release requirements if considering it.
Does XPSemu list supported PS5 firmware?
No specific firmware versions appear in the current [XPSemu README](https://github.com/ZeroTraceTech/XPSemu). It describes XPSemu as a native PS5 port of xemu that runs on a jailbroken PS5 and specifies tools and file prerequisites, but that is not an exact firmware compatibility list. Do not transfer PS5SX2’s reported test versions to XPSemu.

The README’s Alpha 1 game reports are limited to the named titles in the table. They describe project-reported results, not guaranteed performance across Xbox games, firmware versions, or console models.
Why a jailbreak range is not an emulator compatibility range
A September 30, 2026 report described the Relapse jailbreak as covering firmware 7.00 through 13.60. That is a general jailbreak range, not evidence that PS5SX2 or XPSemu works on every version within it. Each emulator also relies on its own build, payloads, and installation or mounting tools; all of those components need to work together on the specific console.

Before attempting either emulator, compare the console’s exact firmware and model with the current jailbreak instructions, the required kstuff and project tools, and the emulator’s latest release notes. For XPSemu in particular, the cited README does not settle which firmware versions or tested PS5 models are supported.

Sony says the overwhelming majority of more than 4,000 PS4 games are playable on PS5 on its [backward-compatibility support page](https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/games/ps5-backward-compatibility-games/). That claim concerns PS4 games; it does not mean the PS5 officially supports PS2 discs, PS2 game files, or original Xbox games. The PS2 and Xbox cases discussed here rely on separate homebrew emulator projects and their prerequisites.
