Sometimes—but only when the package costs less than the onboard purchases you would genuinely make. Compare the full cost for every required guest and cruise day with the à-la-carte cost of the drinks, internet, and meals you expect to use, after subtracting anything already included in your fare or booking offer. Because inclusions, prices, and purchase rules vary by cruise line and sailing, there is no universal break-even drink count or package price.

How to decide whether a cruise package is worth it

Use the same calculation for a drink, Wi-Fi, dining, or bundled package:

  1. Find the all-in package cost. Check the total number of cruise days, how many guests must buy it, and any applicable service charges or gratuities. Confirm whether the price varies by sailing or purchase timing.
  2. Estimate only purchases you would actually make. Use the drinks, internet access, and specialty meals you realistically expect to want—not hypothetical usage added to make a bundle look valuable.
  3. Check what the package covers. Review eligible venues, excluded drinks or services, device and data limits, included meal count, and any booking restrictions.
  4. Subtract benefits already included. Account for standard fare inclusions, promotions, credits, and bundle benefits so you do not pay twice for something you already have.

If the likely à-la-carte total is higher than the package’s all-in cost, the package may save money. If it is lower, paying separately is likely the better value. A package may still be worth choosing for convenience, but that is a preference rather than a saving.

Are cruise drink packages worth it?

They can be, if the drinks you expect to order are covered and their separate cost would exceed the package’s total price. Count the drinks you would actually want, and check the package’s limits, eligible venues, and exclusions. For example, Royal Caribbean says its beverage packages are honored at bars and lounges, the Windjammer Café, Main Dining Room, and private destinations during normal business hours; room service and minibar are excluded. Some sailings may not offer the packages. Royal Caribbean’s beverage FAQ has the line’s current terms.

Do not rely on a universal number of drinks needed to break even. The answer depends on the actual package price for your sailing, what drinks are covered, and what you would otherwise order. Royal Caribbean’s rules also affect the total: an alcoholic beverage package must be purchased for the full cruise, and all guests of legal drinking age in the same stateroom must buy it if one does. Other packages may be purchased individually, but packages are for one guest and cannot be shared.

One dated inclusion change to note: Royal Caribbean says that beginning March 15, 2026, its Deluxe Beverage and Refreshment packages no longer include a Coca-Cola Freestyle cup. Guests may buy one onboard for $4.99 to use Freestyle machines. Check the FAQ for later changes before booking.

Is cruise Wi-Fi worth paying for?

Wi-Fi can be worth paying for if you need more access than the fare or an offer includes, but compare the actual allowance with your intended use. A limited session allowance may suit occasional browsing, while regular work, video calls, or streaming can require a different plan. Verify the speed, data or session limits, number of devices, and whether the quoted price is per person, per stateroom, or per day.

As a line-specific reference, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Free at Sea page describes 150 minutes of Wi-Fi for guests in the stateroom. It lists an optional Voyage Wi-Fi Pass at $29.99 per stateroom per day at 1.5 Mbps, and a Streaming Voyage Wi-Fi Pass at $39.99 per stateroom per day. These are NCL figures, not market-wide prices; confirm that your booking has the same offer and current terms. See NCL’s Free at Sea details.

Should you buy a cruise dining package?

A dining package is most likely to make sense when you already plan to eat at the covered specialty restaurants enough times to justify its price. Compare its included meal count and restaurant eligibility with the meals you would otherwise purchase. Also check booking restrictions and whether your fare or promotion already includes specialty dining.

NCL’s Free at Sea page describes three specialty dining experiences on a seven-day cruise. That is a specific offer example, not a general cruise-line standard. If your booking includes dining benefits, value any upgrade against the additional meals you would actually choose rather than counting the included experiences as money saved twice.

When a bundle changes the calculation

Evaluate a bundle benefit by benefit. Add the separate cost only for services you would otherwise buy, then compare that figure with the bundle’s full added cost and purchase rules. An unused excursion credit, extra Wi-Fi, or additional dining discount does not create value simply because it appears in the offer.

NCL lists Free at Sea Plus at $49.99 per person per day. Its described benefits include expanded beverages, unlimited streaming Wi-Fi, prepaid service charges, and 50% off additional specialty-dining nights. NCL says guests who have already prepaid service charges or received them through a promotion get a $15 discount off the package price. NCL Holdings’ announcement says the offer applies to eligible sailings departing February 1, 2026 onward. Compare the upgrade with only the benefits you expect to use, and verify the offer for your sailing on NCL’s offer page and the NCL Holdings announcement.

Where to check prices and terms

Look up the package options attached to your specific reservation rather than treating an example price as a general rate. Cruise-line offers can differ by sailing and may have restrictions or exclusions. Carnival’s official pages describe drink, Wi-Fi, and specialty-dining-related packages, note that offers are subject to terms, and say some packages are limited to selected sailings. Its drink page says beer starts at $6.50, but that example alone does not establish package value or a complete current price list. Check your booking’s package terms and the relevant Carnival package page and Carnival drink package page.
