Gemini integrations are permissioned connections to services such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and selected third-party apps. They can let Gemini find or summarize information—and, where supported, take actions—but connecting an app does not give Gemini unrestricted access to an entire account. What it can see or do depends on the service, your existing permissions and settings, your account type and device, and, for work or school accounts, your administrator’s policies.
How Gemini integrations work
Gemini calls these connections Connected Apps. You can connect or disconnect supported services in the Gemini app’s Connected Apps settings. In a conversation, you can ask Gemini to use a service; Google’s help guidance also recommends naming the app or service when you start a new conversation.
Some Google services can provide public information without connecting your personal content. Google lists Search, Flights, Hotels, Maps, and YouTube as examples. That is different from authorizing Gemini to use personal information associated with a connected service.
The interface and available apps are not identical everywhere. An app available only in the Android Gemini app might not appear in Connected Apps on iOS or the web. Availability also varies with account type, region, language, device, and the Gemini app you are using.

What information a connection can expose
The access is shaped by the particular integration and the permissions already in place; it is not automatically everything in your Google account. Depending on eligibility and setup, connected information can include emails, files, calendar events, saved Search or YouTube activity, photos and videos, contact details, location information, and insights derived from those sources.
Personal Google accounts
For eligible users, Google’s Personal Intelligence features can connect Gemini to selected Google data, including Search services, YouTube, Google Photos, and Contacts; current documentation also refers to Wallet-related information. Which products are available depends on eligibility and supported products, so this is not a universal list of integrations for every personal account.

Work and school accounts
For qualifying Workspace accounts, connected apps can let Gemini find or summarize information from Gmail, Docs, and Drive, and work with Calendar, Tasks, and Keep in supported ways. Current work and school documentation also lists Google Chat, Classroom, and GitHub for some users. Access requires the relevant Workspace edition and settings, and an administrator may need to enable it. The organization can disable some or all app access.
Workspace access still follows file and account permissions. Gemini can access only files shared with the user, and some Drive restrictions can block Gemini even when a file is shared. Delegated access to another person’s Gmail does not give Gemini access to that person’s messages.

What Gemini can do—and what it cannot
A connected app may support reading or searching information, taking actions, or both. The exact capabilities vary by integration; connecting a service is not a promise that every feature in that service is available through Gemini.
- Find and summarize: Gemini can, where supported, locate or summarize Workspace content and find media.
- Work with personal organization: Supported integrations may let Gemini create or view Calendar events, manage supported Tasks and Keep notes, or control supported devices.
- Respect service-specific limits: Google’s personal Workspace guidance says Gemini cannot access comments or images in Docs or Gmail, pictures and videos in Drive, or manage Drive folders and files. Work and school guidance lists additional restrictions, including limits on creating or deleting some Workspace document types and creating Gmail drafts through Connected Apps.
Before relying on a particular action, check the help information for that app and account type. The capabilities can differ between personal and work or school integrations.

Privacy, model improvement, and human review
Google distinguishes between training generative AI models directly on source content and using material derived from connected content. Google says it does not directly train generative AI models on Gmail inboxes, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, other Workspace apps, or Google Photos imagery and audio. It says summaries, excerpts, generated media, and inferences derived from relevant content may be used to answer prompts and improve models; in some cases, a summary may consist of the email or file itself.
Google ties future product-improvement use to Keep Activity settings and describes deletion controls, with qualifications for data that has already been reviewed. Google also says a subset of Connected Apps data processed by Gemini may be reviewed by trained human reviewers to debug services, improve quality, and support safety. It describes measures to disconnect reviewed interactions from Google accounts and reduce personal information in ordinary review flows, with exceptions including feedback and abuse or harm investigations. Google advises against connecting apps containing confidential information you would not want a reviewer to see.

Custom third-party apps have a separate boundary: data sent beyond Gemini is governed by the third party’s privacy practices. Google warns that such apps may receive information from the chat and other available sources, and may request more data than appears necessary. Review the provider’s privacy policy, terms, and documentation before connecting it, and supervise its use.
Controls and checks before connecting
For a personal account
- Open Gemini’s settings and go to Connected Apps to review supported services and connect or disconnect them. Labels and app availability may differ by device.
- Check the specific service’s supported actions and the relevant activity or smart-feature settings. Some connections depend on those settings.
- For a custom third-party app, review the provider’s privacy policy, terms, and documentation before granting access.
- Disconnect an app when you no longer need it. Disconnecting an app—or deleting data in a connected service—does not itself delete Gemini Apps Activity.
For a work or school account
- Confirm that the account has a qualifying Workspace edition and that the required activity setting is enabled.
- Ask the Workspace administrator whether Connected Apps or the specific service is enabled. Administrators can block Gemini, restrict which Workspace data it can use, and control sharing of Gemini conversations.
- Check that the content is accessible to your account and is not subject to a Drive restriction that prevents Gemini access.
Check Gemini’s sources before acting
Connected content can help Gemini answer questions such as “What’s on my calendar today?” or summarize recent messages, but the answer can still be inaccurate or out of date. Google warns that Gemini can provide outdated information, such as an older email when a newer one exists. Inspect the sources shown with the response, then verify important details in the original service before relying on them.
