Apple has not confirmed a 2026 iMac Pro. The rumor comes from a reported reference to a high-end iMac associated with M5 Max in leaked internal software—not an Apple announcement, retail listing, or confirmed release plan. M5 Max is real, but its appearance in announced Mac Studio and MacBook Pro models does not prove it is coming to an iMac.
What is the evidence for a 2026 iMac Pro?
In December 2025, MacRumors reported that leaked internal software contained an identifier for a high-end iMac associated with an M5 Max platform. That is evidence of a reference in the leak as MacRumors interpreted it; it does not establish a finished product, its name, specifications, or release date. MacRumors’ December 2025 report is the basis for the rumor.
Macworld cautioned that the referenced machine could be an internal testing prototype and might never be sold. That possibility is a reason to treat the leak carefully, not evidence that Apple has either cancelled or committed to the product. Macworld’s coverage explains this uncertainty.
Is the rumored model the same as the regular iMac refresh?
No. In July 2026, MacRumors reported that an iMac refresh was expected during the year, but the report did not establish whether that regular iMac would use M5 or M6. The refresh report is separate from the leaked high-end iMac reference, and it does not say the regular iMac will become an iMac Pro or use M5 Max. Read MacRumors’ July 2026 iMac-refresh report.

Where is M5 Max confirmed?
Apple officially announced M5 Pro and M5 Max on March 3, 2026, and announced MacBook Pro models with M5 Max that month. On August 25, 2026, it announced Mac Studio configurations with M5 Max and M5 Ultra. These are confirmed products; none confirms an M5 Max iMac. Apple described the chips as using its Fusion Architecture, but that company statement concerns the announced chips, not performance in an unannounced iMac.

Should you wait for an iMac Pro or buy a Mac Studio?
If you need a professional desktop now, compare the confirmed Mac Studio with a separate display against the convenience of an all-in-one that remains only a possibility. No apples-to-apples total-cost comparison is established here, so include the display and peripherals in your own setup budget rather than comparing the computer alone.

- Need a system now: The Mac Studio is an announced desktop option; the rumored iMac Pro has no confirmed availability.
- Prefer a single integrated setup: An iMac-style all-in-one would combine the computer and display, but no specifications or sale date for a professional model are confirmed.
- Assess workload fit: Choose based on the requirements of your actual work and the capabilities of a currently announced system, not assumed iMac Pro performance.
- Can wait: Waiting may make sense if an all-in-one is essential to your setup, but the leak does not provide a reliable launch window.
For a portable alternative, Apple has also announced MacBook Pro with M5 Max. It is a confirmed pro Mac, but it is less directly comparable to a desktop all-in-one than Mac Studio.
