What the 8BitDo Arcade Controller is
The standard Arcade Controller uses 16 Kailh Wizard low-profile mechanical switches and a hot-swappable PCB. Instead of a joystick, it uses buttons for movement and attacks. 8BitDo describes the layout as intended for fighting games and markets it as “Leverless. Ultimate Precision”; that is promotional positioning, not an independent performance assessment. 8BitDo’s product page also calls it “Built for professionals,” another manufacturer claim rather than verified competitive performance.
Its thin profile and feature set may suit players looking for a compact all-button setup, but the published weight is 1,097 g. The controller measures 301 × 201 × 22 mm, according to 8BitDo’s specifications.
Features for customization and play
Programmable buttons and lock caps
The controller has four programmable buttons, labeled P1–P4. Four included flat lock caps can disable those buttons, which can help prevent accidental presses or conform to a preferred configuration. A separate control panel handles connection modes, volume, and button mapping. The package includes the controller, 2.4G adapter, four lock caps, cable, and manual.

SOCD and tournament lock
The controller supports SOCD cleaning—the handling of simultaneous opposing directional inputs—and includes a tournament lock. According to the official FAQ, Neutral is the default SOCD mode and can be changed in Ultimate Software V2. Tournament legality depends on an event’s rules; these features alone do not establish that a particular setup is permitted.
Switches and physical construction
The hot-swappable PCB is designed to let users replace compatible switches without soldering. 8BitDo lists 16 Kailh Wizard low-profile switches in the standard controller. The product also has a tempered-glass faceplate, magnetic foldable metal feet, a non-slip silicone mat, and a magnetic compartment for the wireless adapter.

8BitDo lists an Arcade Controller Upgrade Kit separately, with 16 linear switches, 16 keycaps, a keycap puller, and a wrist rest. The available product information does not establish current listing availability or independently document replacement-switch compatibility, so confirm both with the seller or manufacturer before choosing a kit.
Compatibility and connection modes
8BitDo lists Windows 10 (1903) and above, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 running version 20.1.1 or later for the standard model. Connection options depend on the system: Bluetooth is listed for Switch, 2.4G wireless for Windows, and wired operation for Windows and Switch. Do not assume these specifications mean the standard model works with Xbox or every Bluetooth device.

Battery and charging specifications
8BitDo specifies a 1,000 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery, up to 20 hours of use over Bluetooth or 2.4G, and a three-hour charging time. These are manufacturer-stated figures; they are not independent battery-test results, and actual usage can vary with conditions.
Software, pairing, and firmware
The standard controller supports 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 on Windows for configuration. The FAQ says the mobile version of Ultimate Software is not supported. Bluetooth can pair with only one device at a time, so moving it to another device requires pairing again.

The FAQ also says the controller does not wake a Switch. For firmware, 8BitDo’s support page lists Arcade Controller firmware v1.08 and notes that v1.04 added Switch 2 support. Firmware and device compatibility can change, so consult the support page for the latest version before troubleshooting or updating.

These are distinct products. In particular, the Pro’s display, battery, and programmable-button count, and the Xbox model’s licensed-platform support, should not be attributed to the standard Arcade Controller.

Questions to settle before choosing it
- Is it compatible with Switch 2? 8BitDo’s detailed product specifications list Switch 2 version 20.1.1 and above. Check the support page for current firmware and compatibility notes.
- Does the standard controller work on Xbox? Xbox is not listed for the standard model. The Xbox-licensed version is a separate product.
- Can the switches be replaced? The standard model has a hot-swappable PCB and ships with Kailh Wizard low-profile switches. Verify compatibility before buying replacement switches.
- Will it suit a particular tournament? It has SOCD cleaning and tournament lock, but event organizers set their own rules. Check the specific event’s regulations.
