Use Samsung Smart Switch on your Galaxy, choosing a cable or a supported wireless/iCloud route. If you need WhatsApp history, migrate it separately using Samsung’s cable-based prompts before signing in to WhatsApp on the Galaxy. Turn off iMessage and FaceTime on the iPhone, then check your photos and chats on the Galaxy before erasing or trading in the iPhone. Smart Switch transfers selected data, not a guaranteed complete copy of the iPhone.
Choose a transfer route
Smart Switch is Samsung’s official starting point, but the available data categories differ between cable and iCloud transfers and may depend on the devices. Compare the route before you start using Samsung’s Smart Switch content list.

For a cable transfer, check the iPhone and Galaxy ports before gathering equipment. Samsung’s US guide describes a Lightning-to-USB-C cable or a Lightning cable with a USB-OTG adapter; its cable-based WhatsApp instructions specify USB-C-to-USB-C or USB-C-to-Lightning according to the iPhone port. Prepare both phones
- Charge the iPhone and Galaxy, keep the iPhone unlocked and available, and update it as appropriate.
- Identify each phone’s connector if you plan to transfer by cable. Use a data-capable cable and the adapter, if any, that fits both devices.
- If you plan to use iCloud, make sure you can access the relevant Apple account and have any computer or backup access you need. Samsung’s US guide lists a computer for iTunes or iCloud preparation and an iPhone cable or USB-OTG adapter as options. [Samsung transfer guide]
- Back up iMessage media and photos first if you want an additional copy; Samsung’s guide specifically advises this before switching. [Samsung transfer guide]
Transfer iPhone data with Smart Switch
- Open Smart Switch on the Galaxy. Choose the option to receive data from an iPhone or iPad.
- Choose cable or a supported wireless/iCloud route. Follow Smart Switch’s on-screen setup. If prompted on the iPhone, allow or trust the connection.
- Review the content categories. Select what you want and compare the available items with Samsung’s route-specific list. Do not assume the iCloud and cable options include identical data.
- Keep the phones available until the transfer finishes. Follow any prompts on either screen and leave the iPhone intact while you check the Galaxy.
Samsung notes that some data may not transfer, particularly over wireless iCloud. Data associated with synced accounts may instead appear after you sign in to those accounts on the Galaxy. Move WhatsApp chats separately
Treat WhatsApp as a separate migration step rather than assuming it is covered by the general Smart Switch transfer. Samsung’s newer US instructions describe a cable-based WhatsApp flow, and its regional guides specify additional steps. Use the current prompts for your Galaxy model and software. - Start the WhatsApp transfer when Smart Switch or the Galaxy setup prompts you. If the main transfer is wireless, Samsung’s newer instructions say WhatsApp can be handled afterward using the cable flow.
- Connect the phones by USB and keep them connected while the migration runs. In Samsung Colombia’s flow, select WhatsApp in Smart Switch and scan the QR prompt when asked.
- Use the same phone number on the Galaxy that you used for WhatsApp on the iPhone.
- Do not sign in to WhatsApp on the Galaxy before the migration is complete. Follow the on-screen sequence, then open WhatsApp and finish setup when prompted.
Samsung’s regional instructions do not describe identical flows for every model and software version. If the menus or prompts differ, follow the current Samsung instructions for your market and the steps shown on both phones rather than improvising the order. Turn off iMessage and FaceTime
After preparing the transfer, disable iMessage and FaceTime on the iPhone so messages can reach the new phone. Samsung’s US guide advises turning off both services and backing up iMessage media and photos beforehand if needed. [Samsung transfer guide]

- Apple Keychain passwords: Samsung says password data stored in Apple Keychain does not transfer through Smart Switch. Plan to retrieve or set up passwords through your chosen password manager or accounts. [Samsung Germany guide]
- Apple apps as installed apps: Apple-owned apps themselves do not transfer as installed apps. Some compatible services, such as Apple Music, may be downloaded again on Android. [Samsung Germany guide]
- Protected media and private app data: DRM-protected media and some synced, external-account or app-private data may be excluded. Samsung’s US content list says its described music transfer restrictions include only music purchased from iTunes after 2009; this is not a promise that all purchased or protected media will move. - Synced-account content: Some data may appear only after signing into the associated account on the Galaxy, rather than through Smart Switch itself. [Samsung content list]
Verify your photos and chats before erasing the iPhone
Keep the iPhone until you have checked the destination; Smart Switch does not guarantee that every item transfers. On the Galaxy, open the Gallery and inspect a few older and newer photos and videos, then open the messaging apps you use and confirm that expected conversations and media are present. If something is missing, keep the iPhone unchanged and check the relevant Smart Switch content list, account sync, or app-specific migration steps before trying again.
