Yes—a Teensy LC can be configured to appear to a computer as an XInput controller, using the community-maintained ArduinoXInput Teensy package. That is different from using the board as a controller on an actual Xbox 360 console: the package explicitly says it does not support the console’s security-chip handshake. Teensyduino’s built-in USB Joystick mode is another option, but it creates a generic joystick/gamepad rather than automatically presenting an XInput device.
What “emulate an Xbox 360 controller” means
For a PC project, “Xbox 360 controller” commonly means the XInput controller profile that a host computer or application recognizes. The ArduinoXInput library provides the controller interface, while the Teensy-specific package adds the USB mode and board definitions needed to use it with supported Teensy boards. The package lists the Teensy LC as supported. See the ArduinoXInput Teensy package documentation and the ArduinoXInput library.
This does not make the Teensy LC a controller for an Xbox console. The package warns, “This will not enable you to use your Teensy with an Xbox console!” and identifies the console’s dedicated security-chip handshake as the limitation.
Choose between XInput and Teensyduino’s generic joystick mode
These are separate USB approaches. Choose based on how the intended host and software need to identify the controller.

| Consideration | Teensyduino USB Joystick | ArduinoXInput Teensy mode |
|---|---|---|
| How it appears | Generic USB joystick/gamepad | XInput controller profile |
| Documented controls | Six axes, 32 buttons, and one hat switch, according to PJRC’s joystick documentation | Depends on the XInput library and the sketch’s control mapping; the reviewed sources do not specify a particular project’s mapping |
| Setup | Built-in Teensyduino USB mode | Requires additional XInput board definitions/descriptors and the ArduinoXInput library |
| Intended use | Applications that accept a generic USB joystick/gamepad | Hosts or applications that expect an XInput controller |
PJRC documents a Windows joy.cpl check for its generic joystick mode. That check does not establish that a device is recognized as XInput, so use a host-side test that identifies or exercises an XInput device when validating the XInput configuration. The reviewed documentation does not establish a compatibility matrix for particular operating systems or games.
Install the Teensy XInput package
Follow the repository’s instructions for the specific Arduino IDE and Teensyduino files you have installed. The README currently describes Teensyduino 1.62 and warns of possible board-file caching problems with Arduino IDE 2.x; these are maintainer instructions that may change, not guarantees for every future release.

Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Install Arduino IDE and Teensyduino before adding the XInput package.
- Check that the Teensyduino version matches the files provided by the ArduinoXInput Teensy repository. Its current instructions name Teensyduino 1.62.
- Back up the Teensyduino hardware folder before changing its board files.
- Copy the repository’s Teensy files into that hardware folder as directed by the repository README.
- Restart the IDE if needed, select the Teensy LC and the package’s XInput USB mode, then compile the sketch.
If the added board files do not appear or the package does not function in Arduino IDE 2.x, the repository says caching may be involved and suggests trying Arduino IDE 1.x. Check the current README before troubleshooting because package and IDE behavior can change.
Map controls and verify the device
The title alone does not specify a circuit, button layout, or analog control mapping. Decide which physical inputs the project will use, wire them to the appropriate Teensy pins, and make the sketch report each input through the intended XInput control. PJRC’s generic joystick documentation includes buttons and potentiometers as examples, but it is not a schematic for this XInput project.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Compile with the XInput USB mode selected, then upload the sketch to the Teensy LC.
- Connect the board to the intended host and confirm that the host recognizes it as an XInput device—not merely as a generic joystick.
- Exercise each button and analog input independently, checking that the host sees the expected control and direction or range.
- If recognition fails, recheck the selected USB mode, the installed board files and version match, and the sketch’s input mapping. For IDE 2.x, also consider the caching issue described in the repository README.
Is the Teensy LC still a sensible choice?
PJRC’s current Teensy LC product page says the board is unavailable and “Not recommended for new designs or projects.” PJRC recommends Teensy 4.0 or 4.1 for new projects. The LC specifications listed by PJRC are a 48 MHz processor clock, 62K flash, 8K RAM, USB device speed of 12 Mbit/sec, 27 digital input/output pins, and 13 analog input pins; these are product specifications, not independent performance measurements.
The XInput Teensy repository lists the LC and Teensy 4.0/4.1 as supported, but that list alone does not show that an existing LC sketch, board files, pin assignments, or wiring will transfer unchanged to a newer board. Before migrating, check that the board files support the target model and review pin assignments and the circuit.

Project-specific details are still needed
The reviewed material establishes that an XInput-capable Teensy LC setup is possible, but it does not give a specific project’s wiring diagram, bill of materials, button layout, or tested game and operating-system combinations. A separate Teensy-LC Classic Controller to XInput project example is available, but its existence should not be treated as proof that every controller circuit or sketch works the same way.
