Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are announced Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives planned for simultaneous worldwide release in 2027. The games are described as an open world of windswept islands and a vast ocean, and three first partner Pokémon have been revealed. The exact release date, detailed gameplay systems, story, multiplayer and full Pokémon roster remain unannounced.
What are Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves?
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are two new entries in the Pokémon video game series. The Pokémon Company describes them as open-world games set among windswept islands and a large ocean, with local Pokémon ecosystems and challenges that can involve forces of nature. Players will team up with Pokémon to overcome those challenges. That is a broad premise, not a detailed account of battles, exploration or quests. The official game page describes the setting and premise.

When do Pokémon Winds and Waves come out, and what console do they require?
The planned release window is 2027, with a simultaneous worldwide launch. The official announcements reviewed give no specific date or month. Both games are announced as Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives; no version for the original Nintendo Switch has been announced. What gameplay details are confirmed?
The official description confirms an open-world structure, islands, a vast ocean, distinct Pokémon ecosystems and challenges that may involve nature. It does not explain how players travel between islands, how Pokémon are encountered or caught, how battles work, or whether quests follow a particular format. The announcement video is an introduction to the games, not a complete demonstration of their systems.

The official game page warns that the games are in development, that not all footage represents actual gameplay, and that the final experience may vary. A scene in the reveal material should not be treated as proof of a finalized mechanic or final graphics and performance.
Who are the confirmed first partner Pokémon?
Three first partners have been revealed. Their types, categories and abilities are listed in The Pokémon Company’s February 27, 2026 announcement.

What is different between Winds and Waves?
The confirmed difference shown so far is the player character’s outfit. The character in Winds wears a light-colored wide-brim hat; the one in Waves wears a blue cap. The announcements do not confirm separate protagonists, stories, version-exclusive Pokémon or other gameplay differences. The player is described as the main character in each game.
Who are Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu?
Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu are special Pikachu with new looks shown in the reveal material. Their roles have not been explained; the official announcement says more information about their involvement will come in future announcements. No battle function or story role is established.

Which languages are listed, and what is known about the music?
The official Asia announcement lists Japanese, English, European Spanish, Latin American Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. It also says Brazilian Portuguese is officially supported beginning with these games. The announcement does not specify voice-language options.
The main theme featured in the first reveal video was recorded by the NHK Symphony Orchestra, according to the same official announcement. A complete soundtrack and voice cast have not been announced.

What Pokémon Winds and Waves details are still unconfirmed?
As of the official announcements reviewed through October 4, 2026, there is no confirmed exact launch date, price, preorder availability, physical or digital edition information, detailed battle or catching system, multiplayer or online requirement, plot, region inspiration, complete returning-Pokémon roster, or final graphics and performance specification. These are unknowns, not evidence that a particular feature will be absent.
