There is no verified public directory of currently operating needle-and-syringe programme (NSP) sites in Fiji. WHO described the programme as being developed in 2026, but did not identify open locations, hours or eligibility rules. If you need syringes for prescribed treatment, contact your clinician or local health centre to confirm how to obtain supplies. Do not assume a pharmacy has stock or will sell without a prescription.
Where can you get sterile needles and syringes in Fiji?
The answer depends on why you need them. Prescribed medical use and harm-reduction access are different routes, and the available public information does not provide a current, confirmed directory for either.

How to check availability safely
- For prescribed treatment: Contact the clinician who prescribed the injections or your local health centre. Ask where to collect supplies and what prescription or other documentation is required.
- For harm-reduction supplies: Contact Fiji’s Ministry of Health or a local health provider and ask specifically whether an authorized NSP is currently operating and where it distributes supplies. WHO’s descriptions of pharmacies and outreach are possible channels, not confirmation that a particular pharmacy or site participates.
- Before travelling: Confirm opening hours, current stock, eligibility, confidentiality and safe-disposal instructions directly with the provider.
Can you buy syringes at a pharmacy in Fiji?
Current pharmacy dispensing rules and individual pharmacy stock are not established by the sources available. In August 2025, The Fiji Times reported that Health Minister Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu said a prescription was required to buy needles and syringes at pharmacies. This is secondary reporting, not confirmation of current law or of how every pharmacy handles requests. Read the report. Call the pharmacy and your clinician before making a trip; do not rely on a retail listing as proof that a product is sterile, locally compliant or available for delivery to Fiji.
Is there a needle exchange in Suva?
The sources reviewed do not identify a currently operating exchange in Suva, or give a location, schedule or eligibility criteria. A December 2025 assessment described access to sterile injecting equipment as exceptionally limited and reported barriers including syringe scarcity, stigma and pharmacy refusals without prescriptions. WHO’s December 2025 release said all participants interviewed for the assessment had at some point reused a needle or syringe after someone else. That is a finding about those interview participants, not an estimate for Fiji’s population. WHO’s assessment announcement and the rapid assessment report provide the background.

What Fiji’s NSP plans do—and do not—confirm
WHO’s February 2026 account describes Fiji as accelerating NSP development, with health services, pharmacies and peer outreach discussed as possible distribution points. It does not publish a service directory or establish that any of those channels is open now. For a present-day location or launch update, ask the Ministry or the specific provider directly.
The legal position should not be inferred from plans or headlines. Fiji Parliament’s bills index lists the HIV/AIDS (Amendment) Bill 2026, but the Parliament pages reviewed do not establish whether it passed, received assent, commenced or created protections for authorized distributors. Using and disposing of supplies
- For medical injections, follow your prescriber’s instructions and use the equipment and technique they specify.
- Never reuse or share needles or syringes. If you cannot obtain sterile equipment, contact a health professional or health service for advice rather than treating an unverified source as safe.
- Ask the provider how to store and dispose of used sharps safely; local disposal arrangements are not specified in the sources cited here.
