If Claude behaves unexpectedly on Android, first update the app, then identify whether the failed action was voice or dictation, or involved Claude interacting with another Android app. Anthropic documents specific checks for voice problems, but those should not be treated as a fix for every cross-app action. For the latter, consult Anthropic’s “Using Claude with Android Apps” article or contact support.
Update Claude for Android first
An outdated app can cause unexpected behavior or make feature availability appear inconsistent. Anthropic’s documented update route is through Google Play:
- Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon.
- Choose Manage apps & device.
- Under available updates, tap See details.
- Tap Update next to Claude for Android, if an update is listed.

Work out what kind of action failed
“Action” can mean different things. If Claude failed to hear or respond to speech, use the voice-specific checks below. If the problem occurred while Claude was working with another Android app, the voice steps do not diagnose it. Anthropic’s mobile collection lists a separate “Using Claude with Android Apps” article, but the collection listing alone does not establish which actions are supported or what repairs Anthropic recommends for a failure. Check that article for current details, or ask Anthropic support rather than assuming a particular integration, permission, or cause.

For voice mode or dictation problems
Claude does not recognize speech
Check that microphone permission is enabled for Claude, then try speaking clearly in a quiet environment. These checks apply to speech recognition, not to unrelated app actions. Anthropic’s guidance is in Using voice mode on Claude Mobile Apps.
Voice replies are choppy or cut out
Check that your internet connection is stable and that the device has sufficient battery. Close apps using substantial system resources, then try voice mode again.

Voice mode stops responding
Check whether you have reached a usage limit, restart Claude, and verify your connection. Anthropic identifies these as voice-mode troubleshooting checks; they are not established remedies for cross-app failures.
The widget’s microphone shortcut does not work
Anthropic documents the Claude home-screen widget for Android 8.0 Oreo and above. Its shortcuts include starting a chat, opening the camera, and voice dictation. The first time you use the microphone shortcut, you may need to grant voice permission. See Using the Claude Widget on Android.

To reach the support messenger, sign in to Claude, open the menu from your name or initials, choose Get help, and use the messenger. You can search help articles or chat with Fin. Anthropic says free Claude users can access documentation and Fin; paid Claude plan and API Console users can request further help from the Product Support team through the messenger.
