This guide assumes “JEV” means TypeSafe’s Jev AI model. Jev itself is documented as a hosted API model, not software you install as model weights on your computer. You may have installed a local SDK, command-line tool, skill, or third-party integration that connects to it; checking for one of those confirms only that client’s status. If you mean a different JEV, or want operating-system-specific steps, identify the product and your Windows, macOS, or Linux version first.
What “installed” means for TypeSafe Jev
TypeSafe documents Jev as a model served through the POST /v1/systemone API endpoint. Its model documentation lists the current model ID as jev-1.13.0 and the moving alias jev-latest; TypeSafe says aliases can change when releases ship. The official page calls Jev “TypeSafe’s flagship model and the first System One model.” TypeSafe AI model documentation
That hosted model is different from software on your computer that sends requests to it. TypeSafe lists Python and JavaScript SDKs, and third-party projects provide other Jev-related clients. An SDK, CLI, or integration can be installed locally without the model weights being installed locally. A secondary guide updated September 30, 2026, reports that TypeSafe has not released Jev weights and has no official desktop or mobile app. Jev guide
Check the specific Jev client you installed
There is no single universal jev command established by the available documentation. The right check depends on which client or integration you installed. Use its own documentation and package manager, or run the documented diagnostic for that client.

For the Jev-skill project
The project documents jev-decide setup as a way to check whether a key is present and see available configuration choices. That check does not authenticate the credentials, so a key being present is not proof that it is valid or can successfully call Jev. Jev-skill project documentation
For the Jev integration with a doctor command
A separate integration documents jev-bot doctor. It reports driver connection, whether a key is configured, and available windows. It does not test the key or perform an action, so a successful diagnostic is limited to those checks. Jev integration documentation

If you installed a different SDK or tool
Check the installation instructions for that exact package: package names and diagnostics differ, and a command for one project may not exist in another. TypeSafe’s model documentation links its official SDKs, but installing one is a local client installation, not a local model installation. TypeSafe AI model documentation

For a stronger functional check, use the specific client’s documented method to make an authenticated model request and confirm it returns a response. The checks above do not do that. How to interpret the result
- If you find a client package or its documented setup command works, you have evidence about that client—not proof Jev itself is stored on your computer.
- If you have no client installed, you may still be able to access Jev through a hosted service or install a client, subject to TypeSafe’s current access requirements.
- If you specifically need an on-device model, the cited TypeSafe documentation describes API access, while the September 30, 2026 guide reports that downloadable weights are not available. That is distinct from installing an SDK or integration.
