You can play PC games on an Android phone or tablet by streaming them, but the game usually runs somewhere else: either on your own PC or on a cloud provider’s servers. Steam Link and Moonlight are ways to stream from a PC you control; GeForce NOW is a cloud gaming service that runs supported games remotely. The right choice depends on whether you have a capable PC, which games you want to play, and how good your connection is where you plan to play.
Local PC streaming and cloud gaming are different
With local PC streaming, your gaming PC runs the game, encodes its video and audio, and sends them to your Android device. Your phone or tablet sends controller or touch input back to the PC. Valve describes this process for Steam Remote Play: the computer runs the game while audio, video, and input move between it and the client device (Steam Remote Play).
With cloud gaming, a provider runs a supported game on its own remote hardware and streams the result to your Android device. You do not need to own a gaming PC, but you do need service access, a suitable internet connection, and access to the game through a supported catalog or connected store.
Neither approach means that an Android phone is natively running a demanding PC game. It is receiving a stream and returning your input.

- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Three ways to stream PC games to Android
Steam Link: stream from a PC running Steam
Steam Link is the Android client for Steam Remote Play. The host computer must be running Steam and be able to run the game. Valve says the app works on many Android phones, tablets, and TVs running Android 5.0 or later. Its support page lists a computer running Steam and a 5 GHz wireless router among the equipment for setup; the basic process is to sign in to Steam on the host, put the phone on the same network, then follow the app’s connection prompts (Steam Link Android support).
Steam Link is a natural starting point if your games are in Steam and you already have a suitable host PC. It is not itself a cloud service, and the computer must be available while you play.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Moonlight with Sunshine: stream from a PC running compatible host software
Moonlight is an Android client for streaming games, programs, or a full desktop from a PC on your home network or over the internet. Its Google Play listing says it can connect to NVIDIA GeForce Experience host software on NVIDIA GPUs or Sunshine, which it describes as supporting all GPUs. It can stream games from any store if they run on the host PC, and sends controller, mouse, or keyboard input back to that computer (Moonlight on Google Play).
For a Sunshine setup, the project guide covers installing Sunshine, securing its configuration interface, pairing the Android client using a PIN, and testing on the same home network before configuring remote access. Some systems may need a reboot after installation; the guide also explains how to add applications to Sunshine (Sunshine setup guide). Setup and remote access are more hands-on than simply using a cloud service.

GeForce NOW: stream supported games from NVIDIA’s servers
GeForce NOW runs supported games on NVIDIA’s infrastructure and streams them to supported devices, including Android. You need to connect an eligible store account and own or purchase supported paid games; supported free-to-play games are also available. The service lists connected stores including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, EA app, and GOG, but a game’s presence in one of those stores does not by itself guarantee GeForce NOW support (GeForce NOW FAQ).
This option removes the need to own a gaming PC, not the need for a reliable connection or supported games. NVIDIA says GeForce NOW is available directly in North America, Europe, Japan, and India, with Alliance partners serving other regions. Membership types include Free, Performance, and Ultimate, as well as day passes; check the membership page for current prices and availability in your region (GeForce NOW membership options).

Compare what each option requires
| Factor | Steam Link or Moonlight | GeForce NOW |
|---|---|---|
| Where the game runs | Your PC, which must be able to run the selected game. | Provider infrastructure, for games supported by the service. |
| What you need | An available host PC, host software, an Android client, and a network path between them. | A compatible Android device, internet access to the service, and service access. |
| Game access | Games the PC can run. Steam Link is centered on Steam; Moonlight can stream games from any store running on the PC. | A supported game connected through an eligible store, or a supported free-to-play title. |
| Main performance constraints | Host PC capability, video encoding and decoding, network quality, and the Android device’s display and input path. | Android device capability, connection quality and distance to a data center, and service settings or tier limits. |
| Cost shape | The client apps are free in the reviewed listings; the PC, electricity, network equipment, and any accessories still have costs. | No gaming PC purchase is required to start, but membership or day-pass charges may apply, and supported paid games may need to be purchased. |
| Setup and portability | Install and pair a client and host. Home-network play is the simplest case; remote play depends on host availability and network configuration. | Install the client, connect a supported store, and meet the service and network requirements. Play is possible wherever service access and a good connection are available. |
Performance depends on the whole stream, not just the Android device
Local streaming can avoid the internet route to a distant cloud data center when the phone and PC are on the same home network. It still has several stages: the PC must run and encode the game, the network must carry the stream, the Android device must decode and display it, and input must travel back. If the host PC struggles with the game, a fast phone cannot fix that. Playing away from home also adds internet routing and host-upload constraints; Moonlight’s guide documents additional requirements for remote access.
Cloud gaming moves rendering to the provider, but the connection between your location and its data center remains important. NVIDIA’s Android requirements list 15 Mbps for HD up to 60 FPS, 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 FPS, and 35 Mbps for QHD at 120 FPS. NVIDIA recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and specifies latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center. These are vendor requirements and recommendations, not guarantees of the image quality or responsiveness you will experience. The same requirements page says Android streaming at 1440p and 120 FPS requires an Ultimate membership (GeForce NOW system requirements).

Moonlight’s listing advertises support for up to 4K/120 FPS HDR under suitable conditions. That is a capability ceiling, not a promise for every phone, PC, game, network, or codec. Its listing says HDR requires an HDR10-capable client, host encoding support, an HDR-enabled game, and in some cases an HDR display connected to the host.
There is no universal latency winner established by these product requirements. Results depend on the game, settings, device, network path, host or data-center distance, and service configuration. For a meaningful choice, test from the actual place and network where you plan to play, using the game and settings you care about.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compare costs based on what you already own
If you already own a capable gaming PC and mostly play at home, local streaming may have low incremental cost: Steam Link and Moonlight are free in the cited listings, while accessories or electricity may add expense. That does not make the PC itself free; its purchase and upkeep are costs you have already incurred or may still need to incur.
If you do not own a gaming PC, cloud gaming can let you avoid buying one. In exchange, you may pay for a membership or day pass, and you may still need to buy supported games. The cited sources do not establish a complete total-cost comparison or a single current price that applies to every region. For a fair comparison, check the local cloud plan price and compare it over a fixed period with the cost of buying and maintaining a host PC, power use, accessories, and any network upgrades.
Choose the setup that fits your situation
- You already have a capable PC and mainly play at home: Try Steam Link for a Steam-focused setup. Consider Moonlight and Sunshine if you want to stream games from multiple stores or prefer their host options.
- You do not want to buy or maintain a gaming PC: Check whether your games are supported on GeForce NOW, whether the service is available in your region, and whether its current access options fit your budget.
- You want to play away from home: Cloud gaming avoids keeping your own PC reachable, but depends on connectivity to the provider. Moonlight can support remote streaming from your PC, though you must configure it and ensure the host and its internet connection are ready.
- Your internet connection is unreliable: Cloud streaming may be frustrating, and remote streaming from home has similar network risks. A same-home-network local stream avoids the cloud route but still depends on the quality of your Wi-Fi and the host PC.
- You want the simplest setup: A supported cloud service avoids host-PC configuration; a service still requires account, game, network, and membership checks. Steam Link can be straightforward if Steam is already running on your PC and both devices are on the same network.
Check controller and phone compatibility
A touchscreen can work for some games, but a controller is often more comfortable for games designed around a gamepad. Valve lists the Steam Controller, Xbox One S controller, DualShock 4 on Android 9.0 or later, and Razer Kishi/Raiju Mobile among supported controllers for Steam Link; other input devices may work without official support. NVIDIA lists supported controller families for GeForce NOW and recommends a gamepad clip to attach a controller to a phone. Check the current app guidance and the specific controller’s Android compatibility before buying an accessory.
Quick Recap
Quick checklist before settling on a method
- Confirm the game: For local streaming, verify that your PC can run it and choose the client that supports your setup. For GeForce NOW, confirm that the exact game is currently supported through an eligible store.
- Check the host or service: For Steam Link or Moonlight, make sure the PC is available and configure the host software. For GeForce NOW, check Android requirements, regional availability, and the membership or access option you intend to use.
- Test the connection where you will play: Start on the same home network for local streaming. For cloud play or remote PC streaming, test from the actual location and network rather than relying only on a speed test.
- Try your intended controls and settings: Pair the controller you plan to use, then test the game at a realistic resolution and frame-rate setting. A feature advertised by an app or plan does not guarantee that the complete setup will sustain it.
