Check the processor and its original packaging for an explicit country-of-origin marking, then read that marking carefully: it may identify one labeled product or manufacturing stage, not every step in making the CPU. Wafer fabrication and final assembly and testing are separate stages, and AMD’s company-wide disclosures do not identify the history of an individual processor.
What “made” can mean for an AMD processor
A processor can pass through more than one country during manufacturing. Wafer fabrication is where the silicon wafers are made; assembly and testing are later operations. AMD’s FY2025 Form 10-K describes these as distinct parts of its manufacturing arrangements. A country mark on a CPU or box should therefore be read as the origin claim for that labeled product or stage—not automatically as a record of every stage.
AMD says wafers may be sorted by a foundry or delivered to assembly, test, mark, and packaging (ATMP) partners or subcontractors in Asia-Pacific. It identifies TSMC as a wafer supplier for certain HPC, FPGA, and adaptive SoC products, and GlobalFoundries for HPC wafer purchases at 12 nm and 14 nm nodes. AMD also reports that nearly all product assembly and final testing takes place at third-party facilities in China, Malaysia, and Taiwan. These are portfolio-level disclosures, not a unit-by-unit origin record. AMD FY2025 Form 10-K
How to check your particular processor
- Inspect the processor. Look for a country-of-origin statement on the CPU itself. Record the exact wording, along with the model and part identifiers.
- Check the original box and label. Look for an explicit origin statement and record its wording and identifiers. Do not substitute the box’s security label or QR code for an origin mark.
- Decide which manufacturing stage you mean. If you need to know where the wafer was fabricated, ask that directly; if you mean where the CPU was assembled and tested, say so. AMD’s disclosures distinguish these stages.
- Ask for unit-specific confirmation if the marking is missing or unclear. Contact the seller or AMD support with the processor’s identifiers, and ask which stage any country answer covers. The cited AMD materials do not document a public tool that maps a CPU serial number or model to every manufacturing stage.
What AMD’s QR check does—and does not—tell you
AMD says genuine Ryzen and EPYC retail packages carry a tamper-evident security label with a QR code that can be validated with AMD. This is an authenticity check for the boxed product; AMD does not describe it as a lookup for fabrication or assembly location. AMD boxed-processor authenticity guidance

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Why a general list of AMD locations cannot identify your CPU’s origin
AMD’s current filing describes suppliers and facilities across multiple locations, but it does not connect a particular consumer CPU’s identifiers to a specific factory or sequence of manufacturing steps. A model name alone, or a country mentioned in a company-wide disclosure, is not enough to establish where that individual unit’s wafer was fabricated or where it was assembled and tested.
For historical context only, AMD’s 2014 corporate responsibility report described microprocessor assembly, test, and R&D in Penang, Malaysia, and assembly, test, mark, and pack for microprocessors at a Suzhou, China, facility. That older facility information does not establish the origin of a current processor. AMD 2014 corporate responsibility report
