Medium documents these as possible causes of autosave errors and repeated sign-outs—not proof that any particular extension is responsible. Preserve your draft before troubleshooting, then test extensions and browser settings in a controlled order.
Can browser extensions interfere with the Medium editor?
Yes. Medium says an extension can interfere with the HTML and DOM that generate the editor, causing trouble saving a story. The DOM is the page’s structured content and controls. Browser extensions with permission to access a site can run scripts that read or change that page content. Even when a script runs in an isolated JavaScript environment, it may still operate on the page’s shared DOM; isolation does not necessarily prevent page changes. See Medium’s editor-saving guidance and the WebExtensions content-script documentation.
Grammar checkers, translators, accessibility tools, page restylers, ad blockers, paywall blockers, and custom scripts are examples of extensions that could interact with a page if their permissions allow it. That does not establish that any one of them conflicts with Medium. Medium has not identified specific incompatible extensions or explained the editor’s internal implementation.
How do I fix Medium autosave?
Protect the draft before changing browser settings or retrying. Medium’s recommended steps for a saving error are:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Copy the draft. Save the text to the clipboard or another document before troubleshooting.
- Check the browser. Confirm you are using a supported browser and that it is unmodified.
- Deactivate extensions. Turn off browser plug-ins or extensions, then return to the editor.
- Restore and retry. Paste the saved work back into the Medium editor and try saving again.
- Contact Medium. If the problem continues, contact Medium support.
If the story saves with extensions disabled, re-enable them one at a time and retry to check whether a particular extension may be involved. This is a practical way to narrow down a possible conflict, not a guarantee that the cause will be found. Check the extension’s site-access permissions and settings before deciding what to leave enabled.
Why does Medium keep logging me out?
Medium lists extensions that block paywalls as a reason you may be unable to sign in. It also says an ad blocker may need exceptions for the Medium domains you use; otherwise, you may keep getting logged out. Medium’s sign-in troubleshooting guidance also points to cookies and third-party-cookie settings as factors to check.

- Check Medium’s cookie and third-party-cookie guidance in your browser.
- Before clearing site data, make sure you can access the email address or connected sign-in method associated with your account. Clearing it can remove the browser’s saved Medium state.
Can an ad blocker stop me from signing in to Medium?
Medium specifically says paywall-blocking extensions will prevent sign-in. For ad blockers, its guidance is more qualified: you may need to add exceptions for the Medium domains you use to avoid being logged out. If changing an extension setting does not help, check cookie settings and confirm you are signing in with the right account method.
Medium supports email sign-in links and connected social sign-in methods; it does not support passwords. Its sign-in help page says an email verification link expires after two hours and can be used only once.

Which browsers does Medium support for editing?
Medium’s help guidance says its full experience—including logging in and composing or editing stories—is supported on Windows and macOS in the two most recent versions of Safari, Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. If you use another browser or an older version, Medium recommends switching to a current listed browser. This support guidance can change; consult Medium’s supported-browsers page for the latest list.
What if you suspect someone else has access to your Medium account?
Disabling an extension or clearing cookies affects your browser troubleshooting; it is not the same as ending other account sessions. If you suspect account compromise, use Medium’s “Sign out other sessions” control in Settings → Security and apps, then secure the email or connected social account you use to sign in. Medium describes this account-level option in its sign-in and session guidance.

Do Medium’s rules ban browser extensions?
Medium’s rules include browser plug-ins and add-ons in a restriction on specified forms of automated access and copying. They also say users of Medium custom-domain publications may not alter page appearance or transform content through injection and similar methods. These clauses do not amount to a blanket ban on every ordinary extension running locally in a reader’s browser. See Medium’s Rules.
