To stop mixing up AM and PM, use a 24-hour clock if it suits you, check the event’s date and named time zone, then reopen the saved event to confirm the time. These checks catch two different problems: a mistaken morning-versus-evening entry and a correctly formatted time assigned to the wrong time zone.
Use a clock format you can read without guessing
A 24-hour display removes the AM/PM choice: 13:00 is afternoon, while 01:00 is early morning. If you prefer a 12-hour clock, enter AM or PM deliberately and read the time back before saving.
In Outlook, the displayed format may follow your computer’s country or region settings. Microsoft’s Windows instructions are to open the time-format settings and set Short time to HH:mm and Long time to HH:mm:ss for 24-hour notation. This changes how times appear; it does not change the scheduled instant. See Microsoft’s Outlook time-format instructions. Available labels and paths can vary by Windows version and language.
Check the event’s time zone as well as its clock time
Clock format and time zone are separate. “9:00 AM” can be unambiguous and still be wrong if the event is set to an unintended zone. When scheduling across regions, select or verify the event’s named city or region rather than relying on an unexplained abbreviation.

Google Calendar can use a time zone for a calendar or for an individual event. Google says events are converted to UTC when created and displayed in each viewer’s local time zone. Its time-zone settings guide explains the available controls. For developers or integrations, Google’s event documentation identifies time zones using IANA identifiers.
On iPhone, Apple Calendar ordinarily displays events according to the device’s current location. You can assign a different zone to an event, or enable Time Zone Override to keep a chosen zone displayed while traveling. Apple notes that the override affects the zone shown in Calendar; existing events continue to show their original zone as well. Follow Apple’s iPhone Calendar time-zone instructions.

Understand what recipients see
Calendar services can show one shared event at different local clock times for participants in different regions. Google documents local-time display for event viewers. Outlook stores calendar item start and end times in UTC and displays meeting times in attendees’ respective local time zones, according to Microsoft’s time-zone explanation. The organizer’s entered local time and an attendee’s displayed local time can therefore differ without the event itself being a different instant.
Before sending an invitation, confirm the organizer-facing date and time, the event zone, and—if the app provides it—the recipient-facing time. This is especially useful when participants are in different regions or the event is close to midnight.

Do a final check before sending or saving
- Check the date. Read the weekday and calendar date, particularly for a meeting near midnight or a daylight-saving transition.
- Check the clock entry. Confirm AM or PM, or confirm the equivalent 24-hour value.
- Check the named time zone. Verify the intended city or region on the event, not just the calendar’s general display setting.
- Save, then reopen the event. Confirm its date, start and end times, and zone in the saved details. For an invitation, inspect the recipient-facing time if that view is available.
Recheck events affected by daylight-saving changes
Future times can be affected when a region changes its time-zone rules. Google warns that future events may not reflect daylight-saving changes correctly after a rule change, and previously created events may also be affected. See Google Calendar’s time-zone guidance when reviewing affected events.
Microsoft also documents a New Outlook time-bar behavior on the day clocks change: an hour can appear twice or be omitted. This concerns the time bar on the transition day, not a general guarantee that all events will be wrong. Review future or recurring events affected by a rule change rather than assuming every app handles them identically. See Microsoft’s Outlook time-zone documentation.
