Lenovo Smart Clock uses Google Assistant, and Google says the address set for the selected Google Home is the default location for local weather and time—unless you ask about another place. Lenovo and Google’s reviewed documentation does not name the weather-data provider behind the clock’s forecast, so the feed itself cannot be identified from those sources.
How the clock chooses a weather location
Lenovo says its Smart Clock is set up through the Google Home app and uses Google Assistant. Weather is one of the clock’s displayed features and can also be included in a Good Morning routine. Lenovo’s Smart Clock support information describes those features.
Google documents the default location rule: when you ask for local places, weather, or time, the home address for the selected Google Home is used unless you specify another place. Google’s explanation of home addresses describes the address as the physical location of Google Home or Nest devices and explains how it is used for local answers.
How to check or change the Google Home address
- Open the Google Home app and verify that the selected Google Account is the one linked to the clock.
- Open Home settings and choose the home that contains the clock.
- Select Home address, edit the address, and save it.
Google says an address change applies to devices in that selected home. App labels can change over time, so the wording may differ slightly by version. See Google’s home-address instructions if the current menu differs.

Test the default against a named city
Ask, “What’s the weather?” and then ask, “What’s the weather in Chicago?” (substitute a city you choose). A named-place request is an explicit alternative to the home’s default location. If the city-specific answer is right but the unqualified answer is not, that points toward the default location as the issue; it does not rule out account synchronization or other service problems. Google documents the named-place override.
Other location settings to check
Assistant also has saved personal places. Google’s Android instructions put these in Google Home app → You → Your places, where you can add, change, or delete an address. Google notes that allowing current-location access can improve local answers on a phone, such as weather or nearby places. That documentation does not establish phone location permission as the direct source of a Lenovo clock’s weather location. What weather data provider does Lenovo Smart Clock use?
The reviewed Lenovo and Google documentation explains Assistant features and location settings, but does not identify the meteorological company or forecast feed used for Lenovo Smart Clock weather. It is therefore not possible to name a provider on the basis of those sources. The location rule is documented; the underlying weather-data supplier is not.

- Check the selected home and account. Make sure the Google Account linked to the clock is selected, and confirm the address for the home containing the device.
- Check connectivity. Lenovo says Assistant use requires power and an active Wi-Fi connection. Lenovo’s Smart Clock support information.
- Restart the clock. For Smart Clock Essential, Lenovo’s FAQ says to unplug it, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect it. Lenovo’s Smart Clock Essential FAQ.
- Reserve a factory reset for later. Lenovo presents reset as a separate setup-troubleshooting step, not as a guaranteed fix for weather. A reset changes device setup, so try the less disruptive checks first. Lenovo’s Smart Clock Essential FAQ.
Lenovo community discussions include reports of missing temperature displays and incorrect postcodes on Smart Clock Essential. Those posts reflect individual user symptoms, not a confirmed general defect or verified explanation of the cause.
