1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo sort Dart objects by an expensive-to-compute value, compute that value once per item, sort key–item pairs, then extract the items. This Schwartzian transform (also called decorate-sort-undecorate) can avoid repeating key extraction inside a comparator, but it is not automatically faster: temporary storage and allocation add costs that depend on the workload.
How the Schwartzian transform works
A sorting comparator may be called many times. If it parses, normalizes, or traverses nested data on each call, the same key can be derived repeatedly. The transform separates that work from sorting:
- Decorate each item with its computed key and, if needed, its original position.
- Sort the decorated entries by key.
- Undecorate by returning the original items in sorted order.
Implement it for a Dart list
This version accepts a List<T>, computes each key once, and preserves input order when keys compare equal by using the original index as a tie-breaker.
List<T> sortedByKey<T, K extends Comparable<K>>(
List<T> items,
K Function(T) keyOf,
) {
final decorated = [
for (var i = 0; i < items.length; i++)
(key: keyOf(items[i]), index: i, value: items[i]),
];
decorated.sort((a, b) {
final byKey = a.key.compareTo(b.key);
return byKey != 0 ? byKey : a.index.compareTo(b.index);
});
return [for (final entry in decorated) entry.value];
}
For example, if Person has a costly normalizedName getter, call the helper with people and (person) => person.normalizedName. The helper returns a new sorted list; it does not reorder the input list.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The generic bound requires K to implement Comparable<K>. Dart documents Comparable for a type’s intrinsic ordering; when the same type has multiple useful orderings, use explicit comparators that express the intended order (Dart core libraries; Comparable API).
For a general iterable
The indexed implementation assumes a list with length and indexed access. For a general Iterable<T>, materialize it once and then decorate in a single pass:

final input = items.toList();
final decorated = [
for (var i = 0; i < input.length; i++)
(key: keyOf(input[i]), index: i, value: input[i]),
];
Sort and extract the entries as in the list implementation. The materialization is an additional allocation to account for when comparing approaches.
How to sort without preserving equal-key order
If source order among equal keys does not matter, omit the index and compare only keys:

final decorated = items
.map((item) => (key: expensiveKey(item), item: item))
.toList();
decorated.sort((a, b) => a.key.compareTo(b.key));
final sortedItems = decorated.map((entry) => entry.item).toList();
Dart’s List.sort is not guaranteed to be stable: distinct objects that compare as equal may occur in any order in the result (Dart ListBase sort API). The index tie-breaker in the first example makes equal-key entries sort by their input positions, so their relative order is retained.
Make the key comparison match the intended order
A comparator returns a negative integer when its first argument sorts before the second, zero when they compare equal, and a positive integer when the first sorts after the second. It must consistently express the ordering you intend (Dart ListBase sort API).

- Descending order: reverse the key comparison deliberately rather than changing the key’s meaning.
- Nullable keys: decide explicitly whether null sorts first, last, or another way; the example’s non-null
Comparablebound does not define that policy. - Strings: use the comparison semantics your application requires, such as locale-aware ordering when appropriate; ordinary
compareToshould not be assumed to provide it. - Composite keys: compare fields in priority order, moving to the next field when the previous comparison is zero.
Is precomputing sort keys faster than a Dart comparator?
It can be a candidate when deriving each key is expensive and would otherwise recur across comparator calls. It also adds a decorated list or records, temporary memory use, and a pass to extract the sorted values. When key extraction is cheap, direct sorting may be simpler and may avoid that overhead. The outcome depends on key cost, input size and shape, allocation pressure, and the Dart runtime.
No Dart-specific comparative benchmark or measured speedup is established here. The secondary article published by iTechGuides Team on 2026-10-03 likewise does not establish that either approach is categorically faster (Dart Sorting: Schwartzian Transform vs Comparator Performance). Benchmark both implementations with representative inputs on the SDK and runtime that matter to your application. Keep the key calculation, input sizes, and allocation conditions representative; do not infer a general speedup from a single workload.
