Yes—RCS can work between Android phones and iPhones, but both devices must support it and RCS must be enabled. On iPhone, that means iOS 18 or later and a mobile provider that supports RCS on iPhone; availability varies by carrier and region. Apple’s setup guidance and Google’s RCS FAQ explain the requirements.

What has to be in place for RCS to work?

RCS is a messaging standard, not the same service as Apple’s iMessage. For an Android-to-iPhone conversation to use RCS, both sides need an RCS-capable setup, and the iPhone’s provider must support RCS. RCS messaging uses Wi-Fi or mobile data, according to Google; Apple describes RCS as supplied by the mobile network provider in its messaging comparison.

  • iPhone: iOS 18 or later, an eligible mobile plan, and a provider that supports RCS on iPhone.
  • Android: RCS must be available for the device and carrier and enabled in the messaging app. These steps cover Google Messages; other apps may have different settings.
  • Both participants: RCS must be available and active for the particular conversation. Support for one phone or provider does not establish support for every Android–iPhone pairing.

Carrier and country availability can change. If you need a definite answer for your line, check with your provider rather than assuming that changing carriers is necessary.

How do I turn on RCS?

On iPhone

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps, then Messages.
  3. Tap RCS Messaging and turn it on.

If RCS Messaging is missing, Apple says RCS may not be available for your device or provider. Check that the iPhone is running iOS 18 or later and ask your provider whether it supports RCS on iPhone. Apple’s setup page, published May 25, 2026, states that an iPhone needs iOS 18 and a mobile data plan from a provider supporting RCS messaging on iPhone: Apple Support.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

On Android with Google Messages

  1. Open Google Messages.
  2. Open the app’s settings and tap RCS chats.
  3. Turn on RCS chats if the option is available.

Google notes that this option may not be available for a particular device or carrier. See Google’s RCS FAQ for current guidance.

What features can Android and iPhone users get?

When a conversation is using RCS, it can support features such as high-resolution photos and videos, links, typing indicators, and delivery or read receipts. Google also documents group-chat management and typing indicators and read receipts in one-to-one chats for Android–iOS messaging. The features shown can depend on the devices, apps, providers, and conversation; do not assume every feature is available in every chat. See Apple’s comparison and Google’s FAQ.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Why are my messages still green?

Green bubbles on an iPhone indicate a message that is not sent as iMessage. Green alone does not tell you whether the conversation is using RCS or SMS/MMS. Check the conversation’s available messaging mode or the status shown in the messaging app rather than using bubble color to identify the protocol. Apple distinguishes iMessage, RCS, and SMS/MMS in its comparison guide.

Are RCS messages between Android and iPhone encrypted?

Do not assume that an Android–iPhone RCS conversation has end-to-end encryption. Google’s current RCS FAQ says RCS chats with iPhone users are not end-to-end encrypted. Apple’s newer guidance describes encrypted RCS as a beta beginning with iOS 26.5 and supported network providers, with rollout over time; encryption depends on each participant’s provider supporting it. On Apple devices, look for Encrypted and a lock icon in the conversation. Apple says that without this indicator, messages are not protected from a third party reading them in transit. See Apple’s current comparison and Google’s encryption guidance.

What should I check if RCS is not working?

  1. Check iPhone eligibility: Confirm the iPhone runs iOS 18 or later and that Settings > Apps > Messages > RCS Messaging is available and on.
  2. Check Android settings: In Google Messages, open settings and look for RCS chats. If the setting is absent, Google says the device or carrier may not support it.
  3. Confirm provider and region support: Ask the iPhone provider whether RCS is supported on iPhone for your plan and location. Google also notes that iPhone availability may depend on country and carrier.
  4. Check the actual conversation: Review the messaging mode or status shown in the app. RCS, iMessage, SMS, and MMS are distinct paths, so a message that is not using RCS is not necessarily an RCS setting failure.
  5. Check encryption separately: RCS working does not by itself mean a chat is end-to-end encrypted. On iPhone, rely on the in-chat encryption label and lock icon, not on the fact that RCS is enabled.

Official guidance does not establish support for every country-and-carrier combination. For a carrier-specific answer, your region and provider matter.
