Yes. Plex Discover can recommend trending and popular titles and show known places to watch them, including selected streaming services, your accessible Plex Media Servers, Plex’s free Movies & Shows service, and rental or purchase options. Its Universal Watchlist can also gather titles from several of those sources in one place. These features help you find and track what to watch; they do not play subscriptions such as Netflix inside Plex.
How Plex recommendations across services work
Plex Discover is the feature for finding titles and checking their availability. A title’s universal details page can show “More Ways to Watch,” with available options that may include services such as Netflix, Disney+, or Amazon Prime, along with accessible personal Plex libraries and Plex’s own streaming catalog. The services and availability shown are not necessarily exhaustive: what appears can vary by title and location.
You can also see recommendation rows in Plex’s mobile app home screen. Plex says these reflect content your account can access and your online media source settings. See Plex’s guide to navigating its mobile apps.
Choose which streaming services Plex considers
- Open the Plex app’s Settings.
- Choose Streaming Services.
- Select the services you use, then save your choices.
Plex describes the selected-services hub as available in most apps. Availability and labels can vary by app and version, so check your current client if you do not see the setting. Plex’s Discover support page, last modified November 7, 2025, lists supported apps and notes that some rollout details were still forthcoming at that time: Plex Discover support.

Finding a title is different from watching it in Plex
Discover identifies places where a title may be available; it does not bundle paid streaming subscriptions or bring their playback into Plex. On compatible platforms, choosing an external service generally attempts to open that service’s app, often at the selected title. Some platforms cannot directly launch or link to another app. Confirm availability and playback behavior in the service and Plex app you use.
Plex’s own Movies & Shows catalog is a separate, free, ad-supported service, not a paid subscription such as Netflix or Hulu. Plex explains the distinction in “Is Plex like Netflix?”

Save titles from different sources with Universal Watchlist
The Universal Watchlist is Plex’s cross-source save-for-later list. You can add movies and shows from personal Plex libraries, Plex streaming, Discover, or trailers. It has Recommended and Watchlist tabs; titles that are currently streamable may appear in an Available From Your Watchlist row. Plex notes that if you watch something through another service, you may need to remove it from the Watchlist yourself. Details are in Plex’s Universal Watchlist guide.
When personal Plex libraries appear
For content on a personal Plex Media Server to be matched and shown as available in Discover or the Watchlist, its library must use Plex’s Plex Movie or Plex TV Series metadata agent. Older or third-party agents are not supported for these functions. If a library item does not appear, check its metadata agent as well as whether the server is accessible to your account.

What Plex says about library and watch data
Plex says personal servers do not send their library lists to Plex. When you open a Universal Details page, the app asks servers accessible to you whether they contain a matching item. That behavior is distinct from optional watch-state and rating sync: if you enable syncing, account-level title and activity data is synced. Plex Pass is not required for basic Discover availability information. One separate Watchlist option—generating an RSS feed—does require an active Plex Pass subscription, according to Plex’s Universal Watchlist documentation.
