Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYes—but support depends on the exact KVM switch and the full video path, not just the resolution printed on the box. Check that the model supports your required resolution at your required refresh rate for each connection and monitor arrangement. The host, KVM, adapters, cables and monitor input must all support that mode.
What determines resolution and refresh-rate support?
The KVM’s supported modes
Each switch has its own limits, and a model with several video interfaces may support different modes along different input or output paths. A “4K KVM” label alone does not tell you whether 4K is available at 60 Hz, 120 Hz or another rate. Read the model’s mode table for the precise resolution-and-refresh-rate combination you need.
For example, SIIG lists 3440×1440 at up to 100 Hz for one model, while recommending 60 Hz for best performance. Eaton lists 4096×2160 at 60 Hz as the maximum for its B005-DPUA4. These are specifications for those products, not general KVM limits: SIIG’s product specifications and Eaton’s B005-DPUA4 specifications.
The entire signal chain
The computer’s graphics output, interface version, KVM electronics, any HDMI-to-DisplayPort or DisplayPort-to-HDMI conversion, cable and monitor input all need to handle the selected mode. A KVM cannot make a mode work if the computer-to-monitor connection does not support it directly.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Conversion can also reduce the refresh rate available through a switch, even when the graphics processor supports a higher-resolution mode natively. Belkin describes this limitation for 5K displays in its 5K2K secure KVM guidance. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for the precise conversion route rather than assuming that matching connector shapes mean matching capabilities.
EDID and switching behavior
EDID is information a monitor provides about the display modes it supports. A KVM may pass that information through or emulate it so a connected computer continues to recognize a display when you switch computers. EDID management can help preserve monitor settings and reduce resolution changes or desktop rearrangement; StarTech.com describes those benefits for its 2-port DisplayPort KVM with EDID management.

But “EDID” or “EDID emulation” does not guarantee support for every timing the monitor can display. In Belkin’s DQHD secure KVM guidance, the company explains that the secure KVMs discussed read EDID blocks 1 and 2, while a timing for 5120×1440 may appear in later blocks. A switch that does not pass the relevant timing may therefore fail to offer that mode. Verify the exact timing and EDID behavior for your KVM and monitor.
Multiple monitors
If the KVM routes more than one display, check whether each output is an independent video channel and what modes each channel supports. Do not assume a dual-monitor switch lets each monitor run a different resolution or refresh rate; that depends on the model’s design and specifications.

How to check whether your setup will work
- Map the connections. Note each computer’s video output, each monitor’s input, and every cable or adapter between them.
- Identify the exact KVM. Use the model number and, where applicable, hardware revision—not just the product family name.
- Find the exact mode in the specifications. Confirm the resolution paired with the required refresh rate for each relevant input, output and conversion path.
- Check EDID support. Find out whether the switch passes, emulates or lets you configure EDID, and whether it supports the monitor timing you need.
- Verify every display channel. For a multi-monitor setup, confirm the number of independent channels and the supported modes on each.
- Confirm the other devices can carry the mode. Check the computer’s graphics output, monitor input and cables; replace an inadequate cable if necessary, but remember that a cable cannot overcome a limit elsewhere in the chain.
What to check when a display drops or changes mode
If a monitor disappears, changes resolution or moves windows when you switch computers, investigate the KVM’s EDID behavior and the manufacturer’s compatibility guidance. The switching behavior may be the cause; it does not by itself prove the monitor is defective. Also check that both computers, the selected KVM path and the monitor support the mode you are trying to use.
