If a humanoid robot moves or acts unexpectedly, get yourself and others out of its reach and travel path. Do not touch, restrain, inspect, or try to repair it. Use an emergency-stop control only if it is clearly identified and safely reachable without approaching the hazard. Call local emergency services if anyone is injured or in immediate danger, then notify the responsible operator or site safety lead.
What to do immediately
- Create distance and warn others. Move away from the robot’s reach and path if you can do so safely. Keep other people out of the area. Unexpected robot movement can strike, trap, or crush someone; there is no universal safe distance for every robot or installation. Do not approach to inspect it, grab it, or protect a nearby object.
- Use a stop control only if it is clearly identified and safely reachable. If a clearly marked emergency stop is within reach without moving closer to the robot, operating it may help stop motion. Do not guess which control to use or approach a moving robot to find one. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says emergency stops should be accessible and override other controls, but its guidance also warns that cutting all power can cause a robot arm to fall or a workpiece to be flung. How a particular system stops matters.
- Call for emergency help when needed. If someone is injured, trapped, or in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number and follow the dispatcher’s instructions. Do not enter an area where the robot may still move or remain energized to reach them.
- Alert the responsible operator or site safety lead. Once people are clear, leave shutdown, recovery, and inspection to personnel who know the robot and the site’s safeguards. Do not restart or troubleshoot it yourself. OSHA’s legacy robotics instruction recommends following manufacturer guidance for installation and maintenance, using lockout procedures during repair and maintenance, and preventing hazardous automatic restart after a power failure.
- Report what you observed from a safe place. For workplace follow-up, tell the operator or safety lead the time and location, what the robot visibly did, who may have been exposed, and any control actions taken. Reporting requirements and forms vary by location; the sources cited here do not establish one universal procedure.
What bystanders should—and should not—do
A bystander’s safest contribution is to move away, warn people, and call for help if necessary. Do not enter the robot’s operating area, touch or restrain the machine, attempt repairs, or try to force it into a safe position. OSHA documents hazards during non-routine interventions such as programming, maintenance, testing, setup, and adjustment; intervention is not made safe just because the robot appears still.
If another person is within reach of the machine, do not rush into the hazard area. Contact emergency services and follow dispatcher instructions. Rescue or recovery should be handled by people with an appropriate safe response plan and knowledge of the equipment.
What trained operators and site safety leads should handle
After people are clear, the operator or safety lead should follow the response procedure for that specific robot and installation. The robot’s model, configuration, application, and site safeguards determine how it should be stopped, isolated, recovered, and checked. OSHA’s robotics instruction is a legacy document dated September 21, 1987, so treat it as guidance on the hazards and control principles it describes—not proof of a current rule or a universal shutdown sequence.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not assume that an emergency stop, power switch, or other control behaves identically across humanoid robots. Nor should personnel assume that removing power is always the safest action: OSHA warns that loss of power can itself create hazards for some robot applications. Qualified staff should use the manufacturer’s instructions and the site’s established safety procedures rather than improvise a recovery.
Why the robot’s use and setting matter
“Humanoid robot” does not identify one regulatory category or one safety system. OSHA says there are no specific OSHA standards for the robotics industry; standards it lists are consensus guidance from their originating organizations, not OSHA regulations. OSHA also says ISO 10218 is for industrial robots and does not apply to non-industrial robots.

| Robot or use category | What the cited standard covers | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Specified personal-care robots | ISO 13482:2014 covers earthbound personal-care robots such as mobile servant, physical assistant, and person carrier robots. ISO’s catalogue says the edition was reviewed and confirmed in 2020 and remains current, while noting that replacement is expected in coming months. | Its scope excludes industrial robots, toys, medical devices, military or public-force robots, and some other categories. It does not establish a universal emergency response for every humanoid robot. ISO 13482:2014 |
| Industrial robot applications and cells | ISO 10218-2:2025, published in February 2025, addresses integration, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of industrial robot applications and cells. | The ISO catalogue excludes consumer products and service robots accessible to the public, among other uses. It should not be treated as automatically governing a consumer or public-facing humanoid. ISO 10218-2:2025 |
| Consumer or public-facing service robot | The cited sources do not establish a single standard covering every robot in this broad category. | Do not assume an industrial-robot standard applies. The actual robot, use, location, and installed safeguards matter. OSHA’s robotics standards overview |
The applicable requirements depend on the robot’s class, use, and setting. These standards descriptions help explain why advice for one industrial cell cannot automatically be applied to a consumer or public-facing machine.
