If your Samsung phone won’t remove a work profile, first check whether Settings offers a supported removal option. If it says your administrator doesn’t allow removal, the block is usually controlled by your organization—not a problem you can fix by uninstalling an app. Contact your employer’s IT team before trying a factory reset, especially if the phone belongs to the organization.

Check that you’re removing a work profile, not just an app

An Android work profile is a separate, managed space for work apps and data. Work apps are typically identifiable as managed apps, often with a briefcase badge. Removing one work app is different from removing the profile that contains the organization-managed apps and account. Android Enterprise describes how work profiles separate work apps and data.

Also establish who owns the phone. A personally owned phone enrolled for work (BYOD) may have a work profile, while a company-owned or work-only phone can be subject to broader organization controls. The available removal and reset options depend on the device’s ownership and management setup. Android Enterprise explains the different policy scope for personally owned and company-owned devices.

Try the supported removal option in Settings

Settings labels and paths vary by Galaxy model, Android version, One UI version, region, and management provider. Google’s documented steps are for Pixel devices, so treat them as a baseline rather than a guaranteed Samsung path. On a Galaxy, search Settings for “work profile” or look in the accounts or passwords area for the work account and its removal control.

  1. Open Settings and search for work profile. If search does not find a relevant option, inspect the Accounts or Passwords area for the work account.
  2. On Google’s Pixel example, the path is Settings > Passwords, Passkeys & Accounts > Remove work profile > Delete. If that option is not shown, Google says to select the work account and choose Remove account. The precise labels may differ on a Galaxy. Google’s removal instructions note that steps can vary on other devices.
  3. Read the confirmation before proceeding. Removing the profile deletes its associated work account data and work-managed apps from that phone.

After removal, work data may still be available through a computer, browser, or another authorized mobile device, depending on your organization’s access rules. If you need work files or app access, check with IT before deleting the profile. Google explains what is removed and where Workspace data can remain accessible.

What an administrator restriction or error means

If Settings says your administrator does not allow removal, or displays a similar error, the organization may have disabled work-account removal on mobile devices. Google identifies this as a possible cause of the error and directs users to contact their administrator. Clearing app data or uninstalling the management app is not a supported way to override an organization’s policy. Google’s work-account removal guidance.

Contact your employer’s IT help desk or the organization that manages the phone. Ask whether they can remove the work profile from management, release the device from enrollment, or explain which controls apply. Tell them whether the phone is personally owned or company-owned and whether you still need access to work data.

Why ownership changes your options

Situation What it means for removal Who to contact
Personally owned phone with a work profile Work apps and data are managed in a separate profile, but removal may still be restricted by organization policy. Your employer’s IT or device-management administrator.
Company-owned or work-only phone The organization may have broader control over the device, and the administrator may control whether it can be reset or released. The organization that owns or manages the phone.

When a factory reset may be relevant

A factory reset is not the routine first fix for an administrator-blocked work profile. Google mentions resetting an Android device if work notifications continue after the work account has been removed. Separately, Google’s Android Device Policy guidance says an administrator must reset a company-owned or work-only device unless the user is allowed to do it. Google’s removal guidance and Android Device Policy reset guidance.

  • Back up personal data before any reset; a reset erases data stored on the phone.
  • For a company-owned or work-only phone, ask the administrator to handle or authorize the reset.
  • If the phone is still enrolled, ask IT what will happen after a reset and whether they must release it from management.
  • If the profile is already removed and only notifications remain, follow your organization’s instructions before resetting.

A reset may erase local data without releasing the phone from organizational enrollment. The organization’s administrator is the right contact to confirm the device’s status and next step.
