If Fitbit Air will not sync or pair, start with Bluetooth, permissions, charge, and distance; then request a manual sync and restart the tracker and phone. If pairing still fails, remove the old connection from both Google Health and your phone’s Bluetooth settings before adding Air again. For missing notifications, check the phone and tracker settings first. Google’s general notification compatibility table does not list Fitbit Air, so it does not establish which phone-alert categories Air supports.
Start with the connection basics
Fitbit trackers and watches sync with Google Health over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Keep Air close to your phone and open Google Health; being nearby should allow automatic syncing. Make sure the tracker is charged, Bluetooth is on, and the phone has internet access. Google lists proximity, phone permissions, and power-saving modes among the checks for sync problems (Google’s sync troubleshooting).
- Check permissions: On Android, Google names Location and Nearby devices permissions; Nearby devices applies to Android 12 or later. Check that Google Health has the permissions it requests.
- Temporarily disable restrictive modes: Battery saver and Bedtime modes may limit background connectivity. Turn them off while testing.
- Keep the phone and Air close: Establish the connection nearby rather than relying on background syncing at a distance.
Request a manual sync and check its status
With Air near the phone, open Google Health. The general Fitbit workflow is to pull down on the Today screen to sync, or open Connections → Sync. Check the device screen for the last-synced time. If the time does not update, continue with the restart steps (Google’s sync guidance).
Restart your phone and Fitbit Air
Restart the phone
Restart the phone, open Google Health again, and try syncing with Air nearby.

Restart Fitbit Air with its charger
- Connect the Air charging cable to a USB-C power source and place Air on its charger.
- Hold the button on the back of the charger for 10 seconds, or until the status light on Air flashes white.
- Release the button, then reopen Google Health and try syncing again.
Google says restarting turns the device off and on without losing activity data (Google’s Fitbit Air restart instructions). Do not substitute a factory reset: Google warns that factory-reset procedures for supported models delete unsynced data and settings, and says to follow them only at Fitbit Customer Support’s direction.
Clear an incomplete pairing and reconnect
If Air remains stuck at “Pairing incomplete” or will not reconnect, clear the old connection in both places before pairing again. Removing it only from one side can leave an old Bluetooth connection in place.

- In Google Health, open Connections and remove or disconnect Fitbit Air.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings, select the old Air connection, and choose Forget or Unpair.
- Open Google Health and choose Connections → Add device.
- Select Air and follow the in-app pairing instructions.
Labels may vary as Google updates the app. These remove-and-add steps are Google’s recommended connection recovery flow (Google’s sync troubleshooting). If moving Air to a different phone, Google says to forget the old Bluetooth connection before using the new phone (Google’s sync guidance).
Fix missing phone notifications
Check that the phone itself receives the call, text, calendar, or app alert before troubleshooting the tracker. Then check both phone-side and Fitbit-side controls; a sync delay or interrupted Bluetooth connection can also delay notifications.

Check phone settings
- Confirm Bluetooth is on and the phone is near Air. Google says Fitbit phone notifications generally require the phone to be within 30 feet.
- On Android, check lock-screen notifications, per-app notification settings, Do Not Disturb, and permission for Google Health to run in the background.
- Check that the phone is not in a mode that silences alerts or limits background activity.
Check Google Health and Air settings
- In Google Health, open Connections → device → Notifications and follow the setup steps.
- Check Air’s notification settings, Do Not Disturb or sleep mode, and whether the device is locked.
- If settings look right, force quit and reopen Google Health, toggle Bluetooth off and on, restart Air, or turn notifications off and back on in the app.
- If needed, forget the Bluetooth connection and set notifications up again. On iPhone, Google’s troubleshooting also includes toggling Share System Notifications.
Google’s general notification guidance describes phone notifications for Fitbit devices, but its displayed compatibility table does not list Fitbit Air. The documentation therefore does not establish which phone-notification categories Air supports. Check Air-specific instructions or ask Google support before assuming that calls, texts, calendar events, or app alerts are supported (Google’s notification guidance; Google’s Fitbit Air guide).

- Air will sync only when the app is open: Check permissions, background restrictions, Battery saver, and Bedtime mode.
- Air does not appear or pairing will not complete: Check Bluetooth, proximity, charge, and whether an old connection needs to be forgotten on both phone and app.
- Air is paired but data is stale: Open Google Health, request a manual sync, and inspect the last-synced time; then restart the phone and Air.
- Sync works but notifications do not: Verify the phone receives the alert, then check notification permissions, Do Not Disturb or sleep settings, and the app’s notification setup.
When to contact Google support
If restarting and rebuilding the connection do not resolve the issue, use the support route in Google’s Fitbit Air guide to contact Fitbit Customer Support. A Google Health Community post dated September 29, 2026 describes one person’s Air pairing failure across two Apple devices; it is an individual report, not evidence of how common the problem is or proof of a widespread defect (community post).
