Run aontu vet schema.aon data.json to check a data file against an Aontu schema. When it fails, start with the reported path, then compare the actual value with the schema requirement. For exact decimals in JSON, do not expect Aontu to turn a parsed number into a precise decimal: represent the digits as a constrained string and parse them with an exact decimal type after validation.
Run validation and locate the failure
The Aontu documentation demonstrates the command aontu vet invoice.aon invoice.json. A successful check prints verdict: valid. A rejected document prints verdict: invalid, identifies a data path such as $.invoice.total, and provides a finding with the relevant data and schema. The documented shell example returns exit status 1 for invalid data.
- Run
aontu vet schema.aon data.json, substituting your schema and data filenames. - Read the verdict. If it is invalid, use the reported path to find the value in the data document.
- Read the finding category and inspect the displayed data and schema. Determine whether the value conflicts with the required type or fails a constraint.
- Correct the source value or schema deliberately, then run the command again.
The Aontu package documentation describes the tool as combining data, schemas, and defaults into a consistent result or reporting where they conflict. Treat the diagnostic as guidance about a particular mismatch, not as an instruction to convert the value blindly: a conversion can change its meaning.
Tell a type mismatch from a constraint failure
A type or scalar-unification mismatch means the data does not satisfy the schema’s required scalar type. In the official exact-money example, a JSON number conflicts with a schema that expects bigdecimal. A constraint failure is different: the value has the required type but violates an additional rule. For example, the string "19.9" is text, but it fails a pattern requiring two digits after the decimal point.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The guide uses finding names such as no_scalar_unify and constraint in its examples. Those examples illustrate how to read the reported category; they are not a complete catalog of Aontu errors.
Why Aontu rejects a JSON number for exact decimal data
In the documented case, the JSON parser has already converted a number to a binary64 floating-point value before Aontu checks it. That value cannot reliably stand in for the original exact decimal digits, so it does not satisfy the bigdecimal requirement. Aontu refuses this mismatch rather than silently certifying a value whose exactness may already have been lost. The documentation describes this refusal as intentional: accepting the value would validate a representation that the wire format and parser have already made inexact.

This is a specific documented path, not a complete coercion matrix. The available Aontu guidance does not establish how every type or input format behaves, so do not assume that all mismatches are either automatically coerced or always rejected in the same way.
Represent fixed-scale decimals as constrained strings
For an exact decimal crossing a JSON boundary, send the decimal digits as a JSON string, for example "19.99", rather than as the number 19.99. In the schema, require both a string type and a regular-expression constraint for the intended format. The type check rejects a bare JSON number; the pattern can reject malformed text or an incorrect scale. In the guide’s two-decimal example, "19.99" passes while "19.9" fails.

A fuller pattern in the Aontu guide defines a reusable decimal-string type, groups the amount with its currency, and uses an optional constant conversion marker such as bigdecimal:2 to specify the conversion and scale. The marker is constant so the data cannot override the declared intent with a different conversion such as float. After validation, parse the string with an exact decimal implementation—for example, TypeScript’s Decimal class or Go’s math/big—rather than parseFloat.
Choose the representation that matches the requirement
| Representation | Decimal exactness | Type and scale checks | When to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| JSON number | In the documented parsing path, the parser has already converted the number to binary64, so it does not meet the demonstrated exact bigdecimal requirement. |
It is a JSON number, but it cannot preserve the original decimal digits for that exact-decimal check. | Ordinary numeric data where binary floating-point behavior is acceptable. |
| Constrained decimal string | Carries the supplied digits as text until an exact decimal parser handles them. | A string type check rejects non-strings; a pattern can enforce the intended scale and spelling. | Fixed-scale exact decimals, including the documented money case; validate first, then parse exactly. |
Keep currency and display scale explicit
For money, carry the currency alongside the amount so the value has its required unit as well as its digits. Declare the intended scale when it matters to the application. The guide notes that decimal value equality does not necessarily preserve scale: 0d10.50 and 0d10.5 are equal, and canonical output uses the shorter representation. If an interface needs two fractional digits, format the value using the declared scale instead of expecting the parsed numeric value to retain the original spelling.

Account for implementation differences
The package documentation describes TypeScript as Aontu’s canonical implementation and Go as a port that mirrors core unification semantics. The Go API material names verdicts valid, invalid, incomplete, and error. That does not establish that every diagnostic string or detail is identical across TypeScript and Go releases; interpret output in the context of the implementation and version you use.
