First, check whether support has actually ended: confirm your phone’s exact model and security update level, then verify its security-support schedule with the manufacturer. If the model is out of support, plan to replace it with a phone that still receives security updates. Until then, the phone has unresolved security exposure; no ordinary app or accessory makes it equivalent to a supported device.
Check whether your phone has really reached end of support
A delayed or missing update does not, by itself, prove that the manufacturer has stopped supporting your phone. Update timing and support periods vary by manufacturer, model, region, and sometimes carrier variant.
- Find the exact model and update level. Open your phone’s Settings and look for the device model and Android security update level. Menu names vary by device.
- Check the manufacturer’s official support information for that model. Confirm the published security-support end date and whether the model is still receiving patches. For a Pixel, use Google’s Pixel update information. For other Android phones, check the phone maker’s own support page; Android has no single support schedule that applies to every brand.
- Resolve model or region differences before deciding. If the support page does not clearly match your exact model, region, or carrier variant, contact the manufacturer or carrier rather than assuming another version’s end date applies.
As a broad characterization—not a promise for any particular phone—the UK National Cyber Security Centre says most Android devices receive software updates for up to three years after first release, while many brands provide up to seven years. The individual model’s published terms are what matter.
What changes when security updates stop?
Once a phone reaches end of life, its manufacturer no longer supplies security patches for newly addressed vulnerabilities. The UK National Cyber Security Centre says unsupported devices are less secure and that known exploitable vulnerabilities become more likely as products go without updates. That does not mean every unsupported phone is immediately compromised, and available guidance does not establish a personal probability of compromise for an individual user.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
The NCSC’s advice for Android devices is to replace a phone after it reaches end of life to maintain security standards. Its guidance on obsolete products states, “The only fully effective way to mitigate this risk is to stop using the obsolete product.” That is a strong risk principle, not a calculation of the risk to a particular consumer.
Choose a replacement by its support commitment
You do not need the newest or most expensive phone simply because your current one has lost support. Compare the exact models you are considering on the factors that determine whether they will remain supported and meet your needs.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Remaining security-support period: Look for a manufacturer-published end date, not just a general statement about the brand.
- Update frequency and current status: Check how often security updates are expected and whether the specific model or variant is receiving them now.
- Price and practical fit: Weigh the cost against the phone’s remaining support and whether its features meet your needs.
- Second-hand support life: Avoid used phones whose security support has already ended or will end soon, as the NCSC advises.
For example, Google says Pixel 8 and later receive seven years of operating-system and security updates, counted from when each model first became available on the Google Store in the US. This is a Google Pixel commitment—not a standard that applies to every Android phone. Earlier Pixel generations have different terms, so check the exact model on Google’s support page.
For Android Enterprise Recommended devices, participating manufacturers are required to publish support end dates and update frequency. That requirement applies within the programme; it does not mean all Android manufacturers follow the same policy. See Android Enterprise Recommended for programme information.

If you cannot replace the phone right away
Prioritize replacing an unsupported phone, and avoid relying on it for sensitive activity while you arrange a replacement. Treat that as cautious practical advice, not a guarantee that particular settings or habits make the phone safe. NCSC guidance says risk-reduction steps do not make obsolete products risk-free.
An antivirus app, VPN, case, battery replacement, or other accessory does not restore manufacturer security patches. The available guidance does not establish an interim configuration that makes an unsupported phone equivalent to one that is receiving updates. Do not treat any such measure as a substitute for current vendor patches.

Prepare the old phone before selling, trading in, or recycling it
Follow the instructions from the specific trade-in, resale, or recycling programme, since requirements differ by recipient and device. Before handing the phone over:
- Back up the data you want to keep and confirm that the backup is accessible.
- Sign out of accounts and services on the phone.
- Erase personal data using the device’s reset or erase option.
- Remove the SIM card and any memory card, if present, and remove accessories if the recipient requests it.
The Federal Trade Commission’s phone-disposal guidance covers consumer steps. If sending an Android phone to Apple for trade-in, follow Apple’s specific trade-in instructions, which include backing up, signing out, erasing the device, and removing SIM cards, memory cards, and accessories as applicable.
