Sometimes—but generated source files and the code shipped to users are not the same thing. A generator may create operations for the whole API description, while a production bundler can remove unused code if the generated modules and your imports allow tree-shaking. The outcome depends on the generator, its configuration, and how the app uses the generated client.
Why a generated endpoint may not ship in your app
Many API generators create client code from the operations in an API description, not from a record of which endpoints a particular application calls. That can leave operations in the generated directory even when the app never invokes them.
A production bundle is a separate result. A bundler may omit unused exports through tree-shaking, but that depends on how code is organized and imported. Finding an endpoint function in generated files therefore does not, by itself, show that browsers download it.
What ng-openapi-gen documents
ng-openapi-gen is a concrete example, not a rule for every Angular generator. Its project README documents a function for each API operation. Since version 1.0, its default output does not create a service for each API tag; instead, it provides a shared Api service for invoking generated functions.

Operation functions by default
The README says that when an app uses only individual functions, only the corresponding function will be bundled with the component code. This describes the project’s documented behavior; it is not a measurement of every Angular production build.
Optional services per API tag
ng-openapi-gen can also generate injectable services grouped by API tag. The README notes that a service references all functions for its tag, which can increase bundle size when that service is used—particularly for a tag with many operations. Choose this style for its API ergonomics only after considering the import surface and checking the resulting build.

Filtering generated output
The project documentation also explains that selecting subsets of functions or models is intended to create a cleaner generated library, not necessarily to reduce an app’s bundle: its stated expectation is that tree-shaking includes only used functions and models. Its configuration schema documents includeTags and excludeTags for filtering generated services. Those settings are specific to ng-openapi-gen, not universal Angular options.
How to check your project
- Identify the generator and version. Check the package manifest, lockfile, or script that runs code generation. Defaults can vary by tool and release.
- Inspect its configuration and templates. Determine whether it emits a function per operation, grouped service classes, all models, or a selected subset.
- Trace the imports. See whether application code imports individual functions or a grouped service that references many operations. The import pattern can affect what the bundler can remove.
- Compare production builds. Build once with the operation unused and once with it used, keeping other inputs consistent. Inspect the outputs to learn what this project’s production build includes; results should not be generalized to other projects.
- Filter for the right reason. If you publish a generated client library and want a narrower API surface, use supported subset or tag filters. Do not assume deleting generated files is necessary for a smaller app bundle when unused exports are already tree-shaken.
Do not confuse API-client generation with Angular service scaffolding
Angular CLI’s generate service command scaffolds an Angular service; it is a separate task from generating an API client from an API schema. The Angular CLI documentation describes the command here. Whether an API generator creates unused operations is a question about that generator’s output and the production bundling path, not about the CLI command alone.

What the evidence does—and does not—establish
The ng-openapi-gen documentation describes its output styles and expected tree-shaking behavior, but it does not establish a percentage of unused operations across Angular apps or a fixed bundle-size saving. No measured benchmark is available here. For a specific app, the production build is the relevant evidence.
