Yes—provided your headphones support Bluetooth multipoint. Multipoint lets them stay connected to a phone and laptop together, but it usually lets you hear audio from only one device at a time. You can switch sources; the connection itself does not mix the phone’s and laptop’s audio.
What “at the same time” means
With multipoint, headphones can maintain Bluetooth connections to two source devices, such as a phone and a laptop. That is different from playing two audio streams together. Google describes switching between connected sources, and Bose says its QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) play audio from only one device at a time. The precise switching behavior varies by model. Google explains source switching for multipoint; Bose documents its model’s playback limit.
Check whether your headphones support multipoint
Bluetooth support alone does not mean headphones can maintain two device connections. Check the exact model’s manual or official support page for “multipoint” or wording such as “connect to 2 devices simultaneously.” Sony recommends checking model-specific support, while JBL’s compatibility list includes the Tune 770NC. Pair your headphones with the phone and laptop
- Turn on Bluetooth on both the phone and laptop.
- Use the phone’s Bluetooth settings to pair the headphones.
- Use the laptop’s Bluetooth settings to pair the same headphones. If the manufacturer requires a multipoint option or a companion-app setting, follow the instructions for your model.
- Check Bluetooth settings on each device to confirm the headphones show as connected.
Menu names and exact steps differ by operating system and headphone model. Google’s instructions cover its described Android procedure; Sony’s phone-and-computer guidance is likewise model- and operating-system-dependent. Google’s multipoint setup guidance and Sony’s instructions describe their respective procedures.
Switch between phone and laptop audio
When you want to hear the other device, stop playback on the current source and start it on the one you want. Google describes this source-switching approach. Some headphones may switch automatically or apply product-specific rules, so consult the manual rather than assuming that a new sound will always take over.

If the laptop is connected but you hear nothing, check that the headphones are selected as the laptop’s audio output device. Sony’s computer guidance specifically recommends checking the selected speaker output.

Calls and media can follow different priority rules
A call or video call may take priority over music or other media, but the behavior depends on the headphones. Google says calls and video calls take precedence over media for the Pixel Buds models covered by its guidance; do not assume the same rule applies to every Bluetooth headset. What to compare before buying
- Whether the exact model supports multipoint to two devices.
- How it handles switching between media and calls.
- Whether multipoint setup requires an app or a separate setting.
- Any model-specific limits described in the manufacturer’s instructions.
“Bluetooth headphones” is not another way of saying “multipoint headphones”: verify the feature for the specific model you plan to use.
