You can use a Galaxy Tab with a keyboard and mouse while showing Samsung DeX on a larger screen. For a wired display, connect a compatible USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable to a Tab that supports HDMI output. For wireless DeX, choose a compatible Miracast TV or monitor. Check your exact tablet model first: some Galaxy Tabs, including the Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE series, do not support HDMI output.
Choose a connection method

DeX setup screens and labels can differ by tablet generation and software version. Samsung’s current DeX workspace guidance includes Android 16 and One UI 8.0 refinements, so follow the labels shown on your own device. Samsung DeX workspace guidance.
Connect a keyboard and mouse
Samsung supports USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice with DeX. Choose the connection that suits your workspace: USB avoids Bluetooth pairing, while Bluetooth avoids a cable between the tablet and each input device. Pair Bluetooth devices
- Put the keyboard and mouse into Bluetooth pairing mode.
- On the Tab, open Settings and go to Bluetooth settings. Select each accessory when it appears and complete any on-screen pairing prompt.
Connect USB devices
Connect the keyboard and mouse to the tablet using compatible USB connections. If the tablet and accessories use different ports, use an appropriate hub or adapter; Samsung’s guidance confirms USB input support but does not specify a particular hub or adapter model.

Connect an external display with a cable
- Check HDMI support for your exact model. Find the tablet’s full model name or number in its device information, then check Samsung’s compatibility guidance. Do not assume that a USB-C port means the tablet supports video output: Samsung specifically lists the Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE series as not supporting HDMI output. - Connect the display. Plug a compatible DeX cable or USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable into the tablet, then connect its HDMI end to an HDMI input on the TV or monitor. On the display, select that HDMI input. Samsung keyboard, mouse, and display connection guidance.
- Start DeX. Follow the tablet’s prompt to launch Full Desktop mode if it appears. If DeX does not open automatically, open Quick Settings and tap DeX; the exact label can vary with software. Samsung DeX workspace guidance.
A USB-C-to-HDMI adapter is useful only when the particular Tab supports HDMI output. Samsung’s documentation supports the accessory category, not a specific third-party brand, model, or listing.
Connect to a display wirelessly
For wireless DeX, the TV or monitor must support Miracast, and the tablet model must support wireless DeX. Keep the tablet near the display if the connection stutters; Samsung recommends a short distance for a more stable connection. Samsung DeX external-display troubleshooting.

- On the tablet, open Settings > Connected devices > Samsung DeX.
- Tap Connect wirelessly, then select the TV or smart monitor.
- Approve the connection on the devices when prompted.
Samsung notes that the Tab S4 does not support wireless DeX, so check model-specific support if the option is missing. Samsung DeX external-display troubleshooting.
What to expect from DeX input and touch
A keyboard and mouse can control DeX on a standard monitor, but a touchscreen monitor should not be treated as a tablet touchscreen: Samsung says touchscreen displays are not compatible with DeX functionality. A connected DeX touchpad also does not support every gesture; Samsung gives two-finger pinch-to-zoom as an example of an unavailable gesture. Troubleshoot a display that does not connect
Wired display stays blank
- Confirm that the exact Tab model supports HDMI output.
- Check that the adapter or cable is fully seated at the tablet and display.
- Make sure the TV or monitor is set to the HDMI input you used.
- If possible, try another compatible cable or display to isolate the problem.

Wireless DeX is unavailable or unstable
- Verify that the display supports Miracast and that the tablet model supports wireless DeX.
- Move the tablet closer to the TV or monitor if the connection stutters.
- On tablets, Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance says to use Classic mode when casting to an external display with DeX. Mode names and behavior can vary by One UI version, so use the instructions available for your tablet. Samsung DeX external-display troubleshooting.
