There is no single best settings list for every PC. Start with your installed game version, target resolution, and desired frame rate; then adjust demanding visual features one at a time in a representative gameplay scene. The current PC release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, adds options that differ from the 2022 Next-Gen Update, so advice needs to match the version you actually have.
Check which version of The Witcher 3 you have
CD PROJEKT RED announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered as available on September 29, 2026. Its PC feature set includes path tracing, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 2.0. The developer’s Remastered release notes also advise installing current graphics drivers.
Do not assume settings advice for the December 2022 Next-Gen Update describes Remastered. The older update included ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion, PC ray-traced reflections and shadows, FSR 2.1, Ultra+ settings, and DLSS 3 on compatible hardware. CD PROJEKT RED lists those features in its 2022 change list. Settings or upscaling labels may therefore depend on the installed version.
How to optimize The Witcher 3 graphics settings
- Update the game and graphics driver. Confirm whether you are running Remastered or the 2022 Next-Gen Update, then install the current driver recommended in the release notes for your version.
- Choose your output resolution and frame-rate target first. Higher resolution can significantly affect frame rate, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s PC requirements guidance. Judge a preset at the resolution you intend to play, rather than tuning at one resolution and expecting the same performance at another.
- Start with a preset as a baseline. Then change one demanding feature at a time. Test in a representative location and gameplay scene; the developer notes that performance varies with scene, hardware, settings, and output resolution.
- Evaluate ray tracing or path tracing against your target. These are optional visual features to weigh against performance on your own PC. If enabling one prevents you from meeting your target, turn it off or lower other settings and reassess.
- Use an upscaler supported by both your GPU and game version. Do not assume every vendor option appears on every PC. Remastered’s release notes say FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2 is supported on Radeon RX 7000-series and newer GPUs; unsupported GPUs use FSR 2 instead. The same notes list Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency.
What the official performance guidance does—and does not—show
CD PROJEKT RED’s published ray-tracing and path-tracing performance tests used automatic upscaling. Its path-tracing preset also enabled upscaling and frame generation. Those results should not be read as native-resolution performance or as a prediction for a particular PC. The developer cautions that performance changes with scene, system configuration, graphics settings, and resolution.

The official guidance establishes options and testing conditions, not one best configuration for a specific combination of CPU, GPU, and display. Use your own target and gameplay conditions to compare settings; avoid treating a result from another setup as a guaranteed frame rate.
Check the PC storage requirement
CD PROJEKT RED’s current PC requirements page lists SSD storage as required. That is a system requirement, not evidence that an SSD alone improves image quality or frame rate. The page’s detailed requirements chart is presented as an image, so its full CPU and GPU thresholds are not reproduced here.
