007 First Light is a stealth-capable action-adventure, not a confirmed Hitman-style sandbox. IO Interactive says Bond can use stealth, direct action, or a mix, with tools for hacking, cutting locks, creating distractions, and incapacitating targets. Preview coverage describes improvisation and varied approaches, but the available evidence does not establish that every mission is an open-ended playground. The clearest distinction is the design emphasis: First Light is framed as a cinematic Bond origin story, while a detailed, sourced comparison of Hitman’s mission systems cannot be made from the available official excerpts.
Is 007 First Light a stealth game like Hitman?
It includes stealth, but IO Interactive describes 007 First Light as a third-person action-adventure and an original, reimagined James Bond origin story. The developer says its “Creative Approach” lets players complete missions through stealth, direct action, or a mixture of both. That supports calling it a stealth-capable game; it does not establish that stealth is mandatory, that every encounter offers all three approaches, or that the whole game follows Hitman’s mission structure.
IOI’s gameplay reveal names hacking, cutting locks, distractions, and incapacitation among the tools available to Bond. In its April 30, 2026 hands-on preview, PlayStation Blog describes improvisation and multiple ways to approach situations in the preview missions. Those observations speak to flexibility in the scenarios shown, not proof that every level is a fully open sandbox.
How do First Light’s stealth and mission systems work?
Choose between quiet, forceful, or mixed approaches
IOI’s developer diary, Beyond the Light Episode 1: Gameplay Dev Diary, published December 3, 2025, states: “At the heart of 007 First Light lies the Creative Approach, a design philosophy that empowers players to complete missions in their own style, whether through stealth, direct action, or a mix of both.” Treat this as the developer’s stated design goal rather than a guarantee about every mission or encounter.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use tools to change the situation
The officially named options—hacking, cutting locks, making distractions, and incapacitating targets—suggest a toolkit for responding to obstacles rather than relying on a single route. The PlayStation preview’s account of improvisation adds evidence that some previewed situations can be handled in more than one way. Neither source provides a complete mission-by-mission breakdown, so claims about universal tool availability or specific mission layouts would go beyond what is established.
Expect a Bond story frame
IOI positions First Light as a Bond origin narrative, and preview coverage describes cinematic action alongside a more considered spy experience. That framing makes story progression and shifts in pace central to the game’s identity. The available descriptions do not establish how linear the full campaign is, or how much freedom each mission gives players.

What is different from Hitman?
IO Interactive has addressed the comparison directly in a Game Informer interview with gameplay director Andreas Krogh, published February 20, 2026. The accessible information about that interview does not expose enough detail to support specific claims about how the two games’ mechanics compare.
IOI’s HITMAN World of Assassination product information is a relevant official reference, but the available material here does not provide a mechanic-by-mechanic comparison. In particular, it is not enough to make sourced claims about disguises, target routines, map scale, mission scoring, or replay loops. The evidence supports a narrower contrast: First Light is officially framed as a cinematic Bond action-adventure with stealth, direct action, and mixed approaches; its developers also describe flexible ways to handle situations. A more granular account of Hitman’s stealth and mission rules would require consulting the complete interview and current official HITMAN documentation.

Which game should you play?
- Choose 007 First Light if you want a story-driven Bond adventure in which stealth is one supported approach alongside direct action, with tools that can help you improvise.
- Consider HITMAN World of Assassination if your interest is specifically in Hitman’s mission systems. The sources available for this comparison do not justify promising particular mechanics or claiming that First Light reproduces them.
- Want both? They are distinct games from the same developer, but the shared interest in stealth and player choice is not enough to conclude that one is a substitute for the other. Check current official storefronts for platform availability and editions before buying.
