You can move Pokémon from Ruby or Sapphire to Pokémon HOME only through a chain of older games and services: Pal Park, a Generation V game, Pokémon Bank, then HOME. As of October 4, 2026, the final Bank-to-HOME step is still scheduled to be available only until February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST.
The transfer route from Ruby or Sapphire to HOME
This is a sequence of migrations, not a direct connection between a Game Boy Advance cartridge and Pokémon HOME. You need compatible games and hardware for each leg, as well as working access to Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter for the later steps.
- Ruby or Sapphire to a Generation IV game: Use a Nintendo DS or DS Lite with a working GBA cartridge slot to migrate Pokémon through Pal Park into Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver. Nintendo’s Pokémon Platinum manual specifically lists Ruby and Sapphire among the GBA games that can migrate Pokémon to Platinum.
- Generation IV to Generation V: Use the Poké Transfer facility to move Pokémon from a compatible Generation IV game into Black, White, Black 2, or White 2. Pokémon’s support instructions describe using two compatible DS-family systems for this transfer.
- Generation V to Pokémon Bank: Use Poké Transporter with Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 as the source. These are the Generation V games Nintendo lists as compatible with Poké Transporter.
- Pokémon Bank to Pokémon HOME: Transfer the Pokémon from Bank to HOME. Pokémon HOME Premium is required for this step.
What you need before starting
- A copy of Ruby or Sapphire, a DS or DS Lite with a working GBA slot, and one of the compatible Generation IV games listed above.
- A compatible Generation V game and the systems needed to use Poké Transfer.
- Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter already installed and functioning. Nintendo says Bank is no longer available to download, so buying a system now does not guarantee access to either app.
- A Pokémon HOME Premium Plan for the Bank-to-HOME transfer.
- Enough time to complete the process before Pokémon Bank service ends. Nintendo’s announced end time is February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST, which is February 26, 2027, at 03:00 UTC.
Nintendo says Pokémon Bank is free to use for people who downloaded it before March 27, 2023. That qualification does not make the app available for new downloads.
Important limits on the transfer
The final move is one-way
Once a Pokémon has been moved from Bank into HOME, it cannot be returned to Bank. Treat the move as a one-way decision rather than a temporary way to store a Pokémon while deciding which service to use.

Bank access has a deadline
Nintendo says Bank-to-HOME transfers will no longer be possible after Bank service ends on February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. The route therefore depends not just on owning the cartridges and systems, but also on having functioning Bank and Poké Transporter access while the service remains available.
HOME does not make every Pokémon usable in every game
A Pokémon’s presence in HOME does not mean every compatible game can accept it. Check HOME’s per-Pokémon game compatibility information for the intended destination before transferring it out of Bank.

How to judge whether the route is feasible for you
Check the entire chain before moving any Pokémon: whether Bank and Poké Transporter are installed and working, whether you have the required GBA, DS-family systems and game cartridges, whether you can use HOME Premium, and whether you can complete the transfers before Bank service ends. A DS Lite alone is not enough; it only supplies the GBA slot needed for the first leg.
