Use official launch schedules to track missions, then follow agency and launch-operator announcements for engine tests. A launch calendar is not a complete test calendar: it may show when a vehicle could fly without saying whether an engine stand test is planned, when it will happen, or whether the public can watch it.
Start with launch schedules, but treat them as mission trackers
For NASA-associated missions, check the NASA Launch Schedule. Then check the launch provider’s own mission page. For example, Rocket Lab’s Launches page lists upcoming and completed missions with details such as date, vehicle, customer, and launch site.
These pages provide a baseline for mission activity, not a universal calendar of engine testing. NASA’s Open Data Portal describes its Spacecraft Launch Schedule dataset as public and irregularly updated; its catalog metadata was last updated March 31, 2025. Use the live schedule for current entries rather than treating that catalog description as a current mission list. NASA also maintains a Small Spacecraft & Distributed Systems schedule with year-by-year expectations and mission launch records.
Schedule entries may be broad or provisional. NASA has listed windows such as “No Earlier Than,” seasons, and future years; Rocket Lab has also listed some future missions only to year-level precision. Check the relevant operator or agency page again as a date approaches.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Find test announcements separately
Search the relevant agency or operator newsroom, test-facility pages, and mission updates. Useful search terms include “hot fire,” “static fire,” “engine test,” and the engine or vehicle name. An upcoming launch entry does not establish that a stand test is scheduled or publicly observable.
NASA’s report on a recent RS-25 test shows the level of detail an official announcement can provide: NASA reported a 500-second hot fire on Jan. 17, 2024, at the Fred Haise Test Stand. The test series supported certification of upgraded production engines for future Space Launch System missions. Read the NASA RS-25 test announcement for its stated purpose and results.

Distinguish stand, pad, and flight tests
Test categories answer different questions. A component-level engine test examines an engine or component on a test stand. A whole-vehicle pad test concerns an integrated vehicle on its launch pad. An in-flight test shows performance in flight conditions, but should not be called a standalone engine test unless the source describes it that way.
NASA’s Office of Inspector General describes NASA’s routine use of component-level engine testing and contrasts it with SpaceX’s routine testing on its launch pad and in flight. The format of the test—and therefore the type of evidence a public report may contain—varies by program. See the NASA OIG review of NASA’s rocket propulsion test program for that distinction.

Record what each report actually establishes
For each test announcement, note the source and publication date, the test date, engine or vehicle identification, location, test category, duration or power level if stated, the objective, and the reported outcome. Keep announced plans separate from completed tests. If a detail is absent, record it as “not disclosed” rather than estimating it.
| What to compare | What to record |
|---|---|
| Source and status | Agency or operator; whether the item is a plan, an update, or a completed-test report |
| Timing | Publication date and test date, or the exact date window stated |
| Hardware and location | Engine or vehicle identification and the named test stand, facility, pad, or site |
| Test description | Stand, pad, or flight test; duration or power level only if published |
| Purpose and result | The source’s stated objective and explicit outcome; mark unstated details “not disclosed” |
NASA’s RS-25 announcement is a useful example of reporting that identifies the test date, duration, stand, program role, and components under evaluation. By contrast, do not infer a test’s duration, objective, or outcome from a launch schedule alone.

Use FAA information for airspace context
The FAA describes Space Data Integrator telemetry—including position, altitude, speed, and deviations—as input to operational air traffic management. Its Airspace Integration page does not describe a public, consumer-facing live feed for following engine tests.
The sources cited here establish no comprehensive, real-time public feed of private engine stand tests. That does not mean operators never release test information; it means readers should rely on each operator’s official announcements and treat undisclosed telemetry or test details as unknown.
