To stream to Facebook Live over RTMPS, create or select a broadcast in Facebook Live Producer, copy its current server URL and stream key, then enter both in OBS or another compatible encoder. OBS lists Facebook Live’s default RTMPS endpoint as rtmps://rtmp-api.facebook.com:443/rtmp/, but use the URL shown for your broadcast if it differs.
What you need before you start
- A Facebook account with access to Live Producer and the ability to create or select the broadcast you want to stream.
- Encoder software that supports RTMPS, such as OBS Studio.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity to sustain your chosen video bitrate.
RTMPS sends the encoder’s video and audio to Facebook using a server URL and a stream key. The key is a credential: do not share it or expose it in a public screenshot or recording.
Get the RTMPS server URL and stream key
- Open Facebook Live Producer and create or select the live video you intend to publish.
- Choose the streaming-software source.
- Copy the server URL and stream key currently displayed for that broadcast or account.
- Keep the stream key private and ready to paste into your encoder.
Use the values Live Producer displays for your stream. Facebook’s interface and available options may vary by account or session, and the detailed Meta help pages available for this topic did not establish that all users see the same settings or key-persistence options.
Configure OBS for Facebook Live over RTMPS
- In OBS, open Settings and select Stream.
- Choose Facebook Live as the service if it is available. Otherwise, choose a custom service and enter the server URL copied from Live Producer.
- Paste the stream key into the stream-key field. Check that the URL and key have not been swapped or copied with extra spaces.
- Set the video codec to H.264 and choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your upload connection can sustain.
- Apply the settings, start streaming in OBS, then check the preview and status in Live Producer before publishing the broadcast.
OBS’s maintained Facebook Live service configuration lists rtmps://rtmp-api.facebook.com:443/rtmp/ as its default endpoint. If Live Producer shows a different server URL for your broadcast, use the displayed value rather than overriding it with the OBS default. OBS also identifies H.264 video for this destination.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
OBS’s current Facebook Live profile lists a maximum of 60 fps, a maximum video bitrate of 9000 kbps, and a maximum audio bitrate of 128 kbps. These are OBS service-profile limits and recommendations, not a guarantee that Facebook will accept every combination for every account or stream.
| Starting point in OBS’s Facebook Live profile | Frame rate | Video bitrate | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1280×720 | 30 fps | Up to 4000 kbps | A more conservative starting point when upload capacity or stability is limited. |
| 1920×1080 | 30 fps | Up to 6000 kbps | When your connection can consistently sustain the higher bitrate. |
Do not treat the listed maximums as targets. Higher resolution and frame rate generally require more upload bandwidth. Start with a profile your connection can hold steadily; if OBS reports dropped frames, reduce bitrate first and reassess before increasing resolution or frame rate.

Confirm the stream before publishing
- Start the stream from OBS.
- Wait for Live Producer to show the incoming preview and a connected or ready status.
- Check that the preview has the expected picture and audio.
- Use Live Producer’s on-screen controls to publish the broadcast when you are ready. Do not assume starting the encoder alone publishes it.
Troubleshoot common RTMPS problems
OBS cannot connect
- Confirm that the server URL and stream key are the current values from the selected Live Producer broadcast.
- Make sure the server URL is in the server field and the key is in the key field.
- If you selected OBS’s Facebook Live service, compare its endpoint with Live Producer and use the URL Facebook currently displays if they differ.
The sources available for this setup do not establish a complete current Facebook error-code guide, so an error message alone should not be assigned a specific cause without further account-specific information.
Dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator
OBS associates a rising dropped-frames counter and a yellow or red connection indicator with an unstable service connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain.

- Lower the video bitrate and see whether the dropped-frame counter stops rising.
- Check whether the upload connection is fluctuating; a connection that briefly reaches a target bitrate may still fail to sustain it.
- If necessary, reduce resolution or frame rate as well, then test again before publishing.
Live Producer does not show the expected preview
- Verify that OBS is streaming to the same broadcast selected in Live Producer.
- Recheck the current server URL and stream key, then reconnect from OBS.
- Allow a short interval for the encoder connection to appear; if it still does not, use the connection checks above rather than assuming the broadcast is already live.
Copyright and broadcast checks
Use video, music, and other material you own or are authorized to stream. A successful RTMPS connection only confirms that the encoder can send a feed; it does not establish that you have rights to the content or that the broadcast complies with Facebook’s rules. Review the current platform requirements for your account and content before publishing.
