If Larix Broadcaster on Android says “encoder initialization failed,” the app has not been able to start video encoding. Larix uses the Android system encoder, but Softvelum’s published materials do not identify a confirmed cause or guaranteed fix for this exact message. Try the reversible checks below, changing one setting at a time; if they do not help, send Softvelum the details of your device and Larix setup.
What the error tells you—and what it does not
The message points to the encoding startup path, not necessarily to a problem with your stream key or internet connection. Softvelum’s Larix FAQ says the Android app uses the system encoder. In practice, that means encoding depends on what the phone’s Android media implementation reports as supported, as well as the codec and video settings selected in Larix.
The message alone does not identify which part failed. The official Softvelum materials reviewed do not define this exact error or confirm a specific remedy. Android compatibility requirements describe platform expectations; they do not establish that a particular phone, OS version, app build, codec, and settings combination will initialize successfully.
Try these Android checks in order
These are cautious diagnostic suggestions, not a Softvelum-verified fix for this exact message. Change one thing at a time and retry, so you can tell whether a setting affects the result.

- Close apps that may be using the camera or encoder. Stop other camera, recording, or streaming apps, then close and reopen Larix. If the error remains, restart the phone and try again.
- Try H.264/AVC instead of HEVC/H.265. If Larix is set to HEVC/H.265, switch to H.264/AVC and retry. Softvelum lists H.264/AVC for Larix on Android and says HEVC is available on supporting devices. This makes H.264 a useful comparison, not a guaranteed fix.
- Reduce resolution, then retry. Use a lower resolution than your current setting. If that changes nothing, restore it before testing another setting, or keep it reduced while you test frame rate.
- Reduce frame rate, then retry. Larix’s FAQ says frame-rate choices correspond to ranges supported by the device encoder and that the app cannot precisely control the resulting rate. A lower selection is a diagnostic experiment; Softvelum does not say it resolves this initialization error.
- Check the Android and Larix versions. Softvelum lists Android 7.0 or later as the minimum for Larix on Android. Confirm your installed version and check your usual trusted app source for an available Larix update. Meeting the published minimum does not guarantee that every newer device or configuration will work.
- If it still fails, collect details and contact Softvelum support. Include the phone make and model, Android version, Larix version, selected codec, resolution, frame rate, whether the message appears before streaming starts, and diagnostic logs. These details can help support assess your particular configuration; avoid assuming a specific phone defect or app bug from the message alone.
How to narrow down which setting matters
Record the original settings before changing them. Test a single variable at a time, and note whether encoding starts, the error persists, or the result changes. A simple comparison can make your support report more useful:
- Codec: Does H.264/AVC behave differently from HEVC/H.265?
- Resolution: Does a lower resolution change the outcome?
- Frame rate: Does a lower selection change the outcome?
- Scope: Does the error occur with one combination of settings or with every combination you tried?
A successful retry only shows that the changed configuration behaved differently on your setup; it does not establish a general fix. If every test fails, restore any settings you need and send the test results and logs to Softvelum support.
