Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Then choose Product > Run to build and launch the app. Use a physical iPhone as well when you need to check actual hardware behavior or performance.
Before you start: check Xcode and macOS compatibility
You need a Mac with an Xcode release compatible with its macOS version and the iOS simulator runtime your project needs. Compatibility changes across releases, so check Apple’s Xcode system requirements for the specific Xcode version you plan to use. The table identifies the supported host macOS and platform versions; do not rely on a version pairing remembered from an older project.
Xcode’s platform support and simulator runtimes are optional components. The available run destinations depend both on the app scheme you select and on the platform support installed in Xcode. There is no universal disk-space figure for Xcode plus whichever runtimes you choose; Xcode’s Components settings show installed components and recoverable storage.
Install an iOS simulator runtime
Open the project in Xcode and check its run-destination menu. If the iOS runtime needed for a destination is unavailable, Xcode may show a Get button beside it. Select that button to download the component. You can also open Xcode > Settings > Components, find the needed iOS simulator runtime, and download it there.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Apple also documents downloading components through xcodebuild. The available component options depend on the Xcode release; consult Apple’s component installation documentation for the supported procedure for your version.
Select or create an iPhone simulator
Choose an installed simulator
- Open the project and select the scheme that builds the app target you want to test.
- Open the run-destination menu in the Xcode toolbar.
- Select an available iPhone simulator with the iOS version you want.
If a particular device or OS version is not listed, check that its runtime is installed and that the active scheme is for the intended app platform.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Create a custom simulator configuration
- Open Manage Devices and choose Device Hub. Alternatively, use Xcode > Open Developer Tool > Device Hub.
- Choose Add Device.
- Select an operating system version and device model, and optionally enter a name.
- Create the simulator, then select it from the run-destination menu.
Device Hub lets you configure a simulator by OS version and model; it does not turn the simulated device into a physical iPhone.
Build and run your app
- Confirm the selected scheme includes the app target and the run destination is the simulator you intend to use.
- Choose Product > Run or select the Run button in the toolbar.
- Wait for Xcode to build and launch the app in the simulator.
- If the build fails or Xcode reports a warning, inspect the activity area or open View > Navigators > Issues (Command-5) to find the reported problem.
Simulator launch does not require the physical-device signing and provisioning workflow. Those steps become relevant when you choose a physical iPhone as the destination.

Simulator or physical iPhone?
| Consideration | iOS Simulator | Physical iPhone |
|---|---|---|
| Setup and destination | Choose an installed runtime and device configuration in Xcode. Available options depend on the selected scheme and installed platform support. | Connect and select the device; pairing, signing, account, or provisioning steps may also apply. |
| Configuration | Convenient for running and debugging across available simulated models and OS versions. | Tests the particular hardware and OS actually present on the device. |
| Hardware and performance fidelity | Does not reproduce all physical-device performance or hardware-specific features. | Needed when validating behavior that depends on real hardware or actual device performance. |
Apple cautions that simulators run on the Mac and “don’t replicate the performance or features of a physical device.” Use the simulator for development and debugging, then test on an appropriate physical iPhone for checks that depend on device hardware or performance.
Troubleshooting a missing or unusable simulator
The iPhone destination is missing
- Check the scheme: select the app scheme and confirm it targets the platform you intend to run. The scheme determines which destinations Xcode offers.
- Check platform support and runtime: install the missing component using the destination’s Get prompt or Xcode > Settings > Components.
- Check Xcode compatibility: use Apple’s requirements table to confirm that the installed Xcode release supports your host macOS and the simulator OS you need.
The app will not build or launch
Open the Issues navigator with View > Navigators > Issues (Command-5), or inspect Xcode’s activity area. Read the specific error before changing runtimes or project settings: a build issue may not be caused by the simulator configuration.

A test depends on hardware or real-device performance
Move that check to an appropriate physical iPhone. A simulator cannot establish behavior that depends on hardware it does not reproduce, and selecting a physical device can require additional pairing, signing, or provisioning setup.
