To make Browserless’s current shared REST screenshot configuration wait for an element, add a waitForSelector object containing the CSS selector and a finite timeout. Set visible: true if the element must be visible, not merely present in the DOM. Field names and behavior vary by API and version, so do not assume this JSON works with every screenshot service.
Configure a selector wait in Browserless’s current REST request
Use the current shared REST request configuration, which names this condition waitForSelector. The selector is required; timeout, visible and hidden are optional. For example:

Browserless says it returns immediately if the selector already exists. If it does not appear before the timeout, the request returns a non-200 error. Handle that response rather than assuming the screenshot contains the requested content. Browserless Request Configuration

Choose a selector that identifies the content
Use a stable selector for the specific content you need to capture, such as a page heading or a result container. A generic selector may match an element that appears before the page is ready for your intended capture.
Presence is not visibility
An element can exist in the DOM while hidden. Set visible: true when it must be rendered visibly for the screenshot. The wait condition should match what you need to see in the image.

Choose the right kind of wait
A selector wait is usually more meaningful than sleeping for an arbitrary number of milliseconds because it waits for a page state, not just elapsed time. Browserless documents separate controls for selector waits, custom conditions and fixed delays:

Navigation readiness settings such as load, domcontentloaded or network-idle conditions address navigation or network activity; by themselves, they do not prove that a particular application element has appeared. Check the Browserless API version before copying an example
Browserless’s older BaaS v1 /screenshot API uses a waitFor property. It can represent a CSS selector, a millisecond delay or a page-context function. That documentation marks BaaS v1 as no longer actively supported and points users to updated BaaS v2 or BrowserQL documentation. The current shared REST request configuration instead uses waitForSelector for a selector, with separate fields for functions and delays. Troubleshoot selector waits
- The request returns a non-200 response: In Browserless, the selector may not have appeared before the timeout. Check that the selector matches the page, that the page reaches the expected state, and that the timeout allows enough time. Treat timeout responses as failures to handle, not successful captures.
- The screenshot is missing the target even though the selector matched: DOM presence does not guarantee visibility. Require
visible: trueif visibility is essential, and make sure the selector identifies the intended element. - The API rejects the wait field: Verify the endpoint and version. Browserless’s current shared REST configuration uses
waitForSelector; its older BaaS v1 screenshot API documentswaitFor. Do not copy either field name into another vendor’s request without checking that vendor’s schema. - The page has loaded but the application content has not: Navigation lifecycle completion is not the same as the desired element appearing. Wait on a selector or an appropriate custom condition rather than relying only on navigation readiness.
- A fixed delay is unreliable: A delay only ensures that time elapsed. Prefer an element or application-state condition when the required content can be identified that way.
