How the two workflows differ
GoFullPage is a browser extension intended to capture entire web pages. Its Chrome Web Store listing describes downloads in PNG and JPG, PDF export, clipboard copying, filename customization, and automatic downloads. These are features stated in the listing, not results of comparative testing. See the GoFullPage Chrome Web Store listing.
Chrome DevTools is Chrome’s built-in developer-tool option named in this comparison. The current official command name, menu path, shortcut, and behavior are not established by the available documentation, so this guide does not give unverified click-by-click instructions. Check current Chrome documentation or the browser you use before following a specific DevTools procedure.
When GoFullPage is the better fit
- You want a browser-extension workflow aimed at capturing a full webpage.
- You need to choose among PNG, JPG, or PDF output, or want a continuous or paginated PDF layout.
- You want options such as portrait or landscape PDF layouts where available, clipboard copying, or filename customization.
The listing describes continuous PDFs and paginated PDFs in A4, US Letter, or US Legal formats. GoFullPage’s FAQ also describes a PDF “full image” setting that exports as one page. Check the current listing and FAQ for the options available in your installed version: GoFullPage FAQ.

When Chrome DevTools may fit better
DevTools may be the more natural place to work if the screenshot is part of inspecting, debugging, or documenting a development or QA task. That is a workflow distinction, not evidence that DevTools produces a better capture. Confirm the current full-size screenshot command and its behavior in Chrome before choosing it for a specific page or output format.
Page behavior that can affect the result
PDF documents
GoFullPage’s FAQ says it cannot access PDF documents to scroll and capture them. If the target is itself a PDF, do not assume the extension will capture it as it does an ordinary webpage. The available evidence does not establish how current DevTools handles this case, so verify separately.

Custom scrolling and dynamic pages
GoFullPage says some sites use custom JavaScript scrolling in a way that can prevent capture. This matters on pages where content appears only as a particular region scrolls or where the page’s own code controls scrolling. The FAQ does not establish that every dynamic page will fail; check the actual page rather than treating this caveat as universal.
Chrome mobile emulation
For GoFullPage users capturing while Chrome’s mobile emulator is active, the FAQ cautions that the emulated device should remain fully visible if it is to appear in the capture.

A practical way to decide
- Identify the target. Determine whether you are capturing a regular webpage, a PDF document, or a page with custom scrolling or content that loads during scrolling.
- Choose the output first. If you need a particular GoFullPage PDF layout or image format, check its current listing and FAQ. Do not assume DevTools offers the same output choices.
- Match the workflow. Use an extension workflow if that suits a standalone full-page capture; use DevTools if the screenshot belongs with your inspection or QA work, after verifying the current Chrome steps.
- Check the result on the actual page. Look for missing sections, clipped content, or an incomplete scrolling area. A successful capture command does not by itself prove the page was captured completely.
