It supplies a cookie’s name and value, scope, lifetime, security flags, and optional metadata. Use a BrowserContext when you need to control which isolated browser session receives the cookie; Browser cookie methods are shortcuts for the default context. This guide follows the Puppeteer 25.12.0 CookieData reference.
CookieData fields
In the browser-level API, browser.setCookie(...cookies) accepts one or more CookieData objects. The fields describe the cookie to set:

Optional fields can be left out when they are not needed. For browser-specific fields, check the target browser and Puppeteer version rather than assuming identical behavior across engines.
CookieData vs. CookieParam
These types belong to different API levels, so do not treat them as interchangeable. CookieData is used with the browser-level cookies API. CookieParam is the page-level cookie-setting parameter and has an optional url field.

Choose the parameter type based on the API you call. For exact signatures and version-specific details, consult Puppeteer’s CookieParam reference.
Set and inspect a cookie
This example creates an isolated browser context, sets a cookie there, reads the context’s cookies, and closes the browser. Replace the example domain and cookie value with values appropriate to your application.

Choose the right browser context
A BrowserContext represents an individual user context. Its storage, including cookies and local storage, is isolated from other contexts.

- Use
context.setCookie(...cookies)andcontext.cookies()when the cookie should belong to a specific context. - Use
browser.setCookie(...cookies)orbrowser.cookies()only when the default context is the intended owner. These browser methods are convenience shortcuts for the default context. - Keep setup, navigation, cookie inspection, and deletion within the same context when you are testing an independent session.
Context choice is not just an organizational detail: setting a cookie in one context does not populate another context’s isolated storage.
Delete cookies
Use the matching browser or context cookie API to remove cookies. For an isolated session, delete through the same context that owns the cookie; browser convenience methods address the default context. Puppeteer’s cookie guide includes deletion examples and method details.

Compatibility and version notes
- The field definitions above are from the Puppeteer 25.12.0
CookieDataAPI reference. Check the documentation version that matches the package installed in your project before relying on signatures. partitionKeyhas browser-specific semantics in Puppeteer’s documentation: Chrome’s key matching is described in terms of the top-level site, while Firefox’s is described in terms of the source origin.priorityandsourceSchemeare documented as Chrome-only. Do not depend on them for cross-browser behavior without verifying support.- This field guide does not cover every browser-standard rule for
SameSiteor cross-browser cookie handling. Consult browser or standards documentation if your application depends on those details.
Troubleshooting cookie setup
The cookie is not visible after setting it
Check that you read cookies from the same context where you set them. A cookie set through a named context will not appear in the default context’s isolated storage.
The cookie does not apply to the target page
Review its domain and path scope. If using the page-level CookieParam API, an explicit url can influence default domain, path, and source scheme; CookieData is the browser-level type and does not list that field.

An optional field behaves differently across browsers
Verify support and semantics for the target browser. Puppeteer specifically calls out browser-dependent behavior for partitionKey and Chrome-only support for priority and sourceScheme.
The cookie expires sooner than expected
Confirm that the intended expiration is supplied. Puppeteer’s CookieData reference says an omitted expires makes the cookie a session cookie.
