Call page.isJavaScriptEnabled() on a Puppeteer Page. It returns true when JavaScript is enabled for that page and false when it is disabled.
Check the JavaScript setting on a page
After you have a Puppeteer Page, read its setting with the dedicated method:
const enabled = page.isJavaScriptEnabled();
console.log(enabled); // true or falseThe method returns a boolean; it does not return a promise, so you do not need to await it. See the Puppeteer Page.isJavaScriptEnabled() reference.
Complete minimal example

console.log(page.isJavaScriptEnabled());
await page.setJavaScriptEnabled(false);

await browser.close();The first log reports the page’s current setting. The example then disables JavaScript, navigates, and checks again. The method is part of Puppeteer’s Page API.

Change the setting when needed
Use page.setJavaScriptEnabled(true) to enable scripts or page.setJavaScriptEnabled(false) to disable them. The setter returns a promise, so await it:
await page.setJavaScriptEnabled(false);
await page.goto('https://example.com');
console.log(page.isJavaScriptEnabled()); // falseSet the value before navigating to apply it to the page load, or navigate again after changing it. The official setJavaScriptEnabled() reference notes that changing the value does not affect scripts that have already run and takes full effect on the next navigation.

Why page.evaluate() is not the setting check
page.evaluate() runs JavaScript in the page context. You can use it to test whether a particular expression executes, but that tests execution rather than querying Puppeteer’s JavaScript-enabled setting. For the setting itself, use page.isJavaScriptEnabled(). Puppeteer’s JavaScript execution guide explains page-context evaluation.
Troubleshoot unexpected results
- The page still behaves as if JavaScript ran: disabling scripts does not undo code that ran earlier. Set the value before navigation, then load the page again.
- The result does not change after calling the setter: await
page.setJavaScriptEnabled()and navigate after changing the setting. - You are checking whether a specific script works: the boolean method reports the enabled setting, not whether every script on the site succeeds. Use page-context evaluation only when you need to test a particular expression, and account for page-specific errors separately.
