Call response.headers() on Puppeteer’s HTTPResponse object. It returns an object whose header-name keys are lowercase, so use headers['content-type'], not headers['Content-Type'].
Read headers from a page navigation
page.goto() returns the navigation response when one exists. Check that it is not null before calling headers():
const response = await page.goto('https://example.com');
if (response) {
const headers = response.headers();
console.log(headers['content-type']);
console.log(headers);
}
headers() returns a Record<string, string>. All header-name keys are lowercase. The official HTTPResponse.headers() reference is labeled Puppeteer 25.9.0.
Handle a navigation triggered by an action
When a click or other action causes navigation, wait for the navigation and perform the action together. This avoids a timing race in which the code tries to read the response before navigation completes:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
const [response] = await Promise.all([
page.waitForNavigation(),
page.click('a.next'),
]);
const headers = response?.headers();
console.log(headers?.['content-type']);
The optional chaining handles a possible null navigation response. Puppeteer documents page.goto() returning null in cases such as navigating to about:blank or changing only the hash on the same URL. See the Page reference.
Inspect responses beyond the main page
To see headers for requests made by the page—such as an API call or an image request—listen for the page’s response event. Each event supplies an HTTPResponse:

page.on('response', response => {
console.log(response.url(), response.status(), response.headers());
});
The callback runs for responses as they arrive. Filter by URL or status if you only need a particular request:
page.on('response', response => {
if (response.url().includes('/api/')) {
console.log(response.status());
console.log(response.headers());
}
});
The HTTPResponse class reference documents url(), status(), headers(), and related response methods. Its page is labeled Puppeteer 25.12.0; check the documentation matching your installed version when exact behavior matters.

Understand casing and repeated header values
- Use lowercase keys such as
content-typeandcache-control; do not rely on the original capitalization sent by the server. - When a response contains duplicate header values, Puppeteer combines them into a comma-separated value, except
Set-Cookie, which is separated with a newline. Do not assume every repeated value remains independently addressable in the returned object.
Do not confuse response headers with request headers
| Goal | Puppeteer API | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Read headers received from a server | response.headers() |
Returns headers on an HTTPResponse. |
| Read headers associated with an outgoing request | request.headers() |
Returns headers on an HTTPRequest; it is not the response-header API. See the HTTPRequest.headers() reference. |
| Set extra headers for page requests | page.setExtraHTTPHeaders({...}) |
Configures headers sent with requests initiated by that page. Names are lowercased and header order is not guaranteed. See the Page.setExtraHTTPHeaders() reference. |
Use related response methods when needed
headers() is for headers. The same response object also provides status() for the HTTP status code, ok() for whether the response is successful (2xx), url() for its URL, and request() for the associated request. These are useful when diagnosing a response, but they do not replace headers() for reading response headers.
Troubleshoot missing or unexpected headers
responseis null: Guard the return value frompage.goto()orwaitForNavigation(). Some navigations, includingabout:blankand same-URL hash changes, have no navigation response.- A header lookup returns
undefined: Use the lowercase key, for exampleheaders['content-type']. Also check whether the particular response actually contains that header. - You see fewer entries than expected: Repeated values may be combined; ordinary duplicates are comma-separated and
Set-Cookievalues are newline-separated. - You are seeing outgoing values instead: Check that you are calling
headers()on anHTTPResponse, not anHTTPRequest, and that you have not mistakensetExtraHTTPHeaders()for a read operation. - You need headers from a subrequest: Listen for the page’s
responseevent rather than relying only on the return value from the main navigation.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a rendered website capture rather than custom Puppeteer automation, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF with one GET request. Its capture can accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents.
