In Puppeteer, sourceScheme records the scheme of the origin that originally set a cookie. It is separate from secure: secure is the cookie’s Secure attribute, while sourceScheme describes the scheme associated with the cookie’s source. Puppeteer documents the values 'Unset', 'NonSecure' and 'Secure'.
What sourceScheme means
sourceScheme is origin-scheme metadata: it represents the scheme of the origin that originally set the cookie. It is not another name for a cookie’s Secure attribute, and it should not be treated as a complete rule for deciding whether a cookie will be sent with a request.
Puppeteer’s CookieSourceScheme type reference defines the values as 'Unset' | 'NonSecure' | 'Secure'. The Chrome DevTools Protocol also defines sourceScheme separately from the cookie’s secure property in its Network protocol definition.

The documentation establishes the source-scheme meaning and the enum labels, but it does not establish that this enum alone controls whether a cookie is sent on a particular request.

How it differs from secure
These are independent cookie properties. The secure field is the cookie’s Secure flag. sourceScheme records the scheme of the origin associated with where the cookie was originally set. The protocol represents them as separate fields; setting one should not be read as a substitute for setting the other.

When Puppeteer supports the field
Puppeteer marks sourceScheme optional and documents it as supported only in Chrome. The page-level CookieParam reference notes that the URL used to set a cookie can affect default domain, path and source-scheme values. The browser-level CookieData reference also lists the field as optional and Chrome-only.

The cited Puppeteer references surfaced for different versions: CookieSourceScheme for 25.3.0, CookieParam for 25.11.0 and CookieData for 25.12.0. Those labels are not a single synchronized release snapshot. The protocol definition marks the field experimental, and its master URL can change over time. Check the exact Puppeteer and Chrome versions in your environment before relying on protocol-level behavior.
How to set or inspect a cookie
Use the URL that corresponds to the intended setting context and supply sourceScheme only when you have a specific protocol-level reason to do so. The URL can influence default cookie values, including source scheme; the field is optional.

Troubleshoot unexpected cookie behavior
- The field is rejected or ignored: verify the installed Puppeteer and Chrome versions. Puppeteer documents Chrome-only support, while the protocol field is marked experimental.
- An imported cookie includes
sourceScheme: read it as information about the scheme of the origin that originally set the cookie, not as the Secure attribute. - You are considering
Unset: use caution. Puppeteer describes it as temporary legacy-scope emulation, not a recommended long-term default. - The cookie still behaves unexpectedly: inspect
secure,sameSite, domain, path and the URL used to set the cookie as separate inputs. The cited documentation does not say thatsourceSchemeoverrides those properties.
