A clean automated report means only that the checker found no reportable issues in the tested scope—not that the application is WCAG-conformant or usable by every disabled person.
What Cypress accessibility testing can—and cannot—tell you
Accessibility evidence follows the journeys and states your tests actually reach. If your suite never opens a dialog, triggers a validation error, or expands a menu, a report from that run says nothing about those states.
Cypress’s Accessibility guides describe reports based on unique states reached during recorded tests. Its Cypress Accessibility product documentation says the service uses Axe Core and defaults to WCAG 2.1 AA plus Deque best practices. That product default does not necessarily apply to every open-source Cypress integration, and passing automated rules is not proof of full conformance. Cypress Accessibility guides and What is Cypress Accessibility?
Cypress’s automation guidance says this kind of automation can catch up to 57% of issues that would appear in a manual audit. That is Cypress’s stated estimate, not an independently established detection rate or a prediction for a particular application. Cypress also notes that generic automation cannot prove WCAG compliance; human assessment is required. Accessibility automation principles

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Build coverage around real journeys and states
Start with the journeys that matter to users and the shared components used across them. Include states that change content, available actions, or feedback—not just the default page load.
- Dialogs both open and closed, including how focus enters and leaves them.
- Menus, tabs, and disclosures in expanded and collapsed states.
- Forms with validation errors, corrected input, and successful submission feedback.
- Loading, empty, and failure states where they affect what users can do next.
- Reusable controls in the contexts where their accessible name or instructions may change.
Use the tests that exercise these states as the foundation for automated checks. A broad scan of one initial page state is less useful than checks placed in a suite that deliberately covers the application’s meaningful interactions.

Choose an open-source or managed Cypress workflow
| Approach | What it provides | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Open-source Cypress tests with an accessibility integration | Run Axe Core-powered checks where your tests reach pages or components, and keep control over test placement and assertions. | Reporting and setup depend on the integration you choose; Cypress Accessibility’s stated default target should not be assumed for other tools. |
| Cypress Accessibility in Cypress Cloud | Cypress says recorded end-to-end and component test runs can produce accessibility reports using Axe Core, with a default target of WCAG 2.1 AA plus Deque best practices. | Reports still depend on states exercised by recorded tests and do not replace manual evaluation. |
Cypress Accessibility is a named Cypress Cloud feature, not a requirement for accessibility checks in Cypress. Cypress’s older discussion of user-focused and component testing offers additional context: Maintaining accessibility through user-focused testing.
Turn important accessibility decisions into regression tests
Automated rule scans can flag many detectable issues, but critical interface decisions should also be expressed as test expectations. Cypress recommends explicit coverage so that fixes and design requirements do not quietly regress. Fix accessibility violations

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Assert that important controls expose meaningful accessible names, rather than relying on visible text that may not be the accessible name.
- For an invalid form, check that the relevant error message is rendered and associated with the field as intended.
- For a dialog, test the expected focus behavior and that keyboard users can reach its available actions.
- For expandable content, check that the control communicates its state and that the expected content becomes available.
These examples are targeted regression checks, not a complete accessibility audit. Write expectations for the behavior your application needs, and keep automated rule checks as a separate layer of evidence.
Triage findings and verify fixes
- Agree on the target and scope. Decide which conformance target the team is working toward and which owned application areas are in the first pass.
- Separate actionable failures from judgment calls. Reports may contain findings that require human judgment or could not be checked technically. Investigate them instead of treating every item as an equally certain defect.
- Fix a manageable set. Prioritize issues in code your team owns, resolve a tractable rule or group, and expand coverage as the process becomes routine.
- Record the changed specs locally. Cypress documents recording the relevant specs in local development so you can inspect the accessibility report and catch regressions before committing. Its guidance says this produces the same kind of report as CI for the Cypress Accessibility workflow. Accessibility feedback during local development
- Rerun after remediation. Confirm the changed state is still covered, review the resulting output, and retain explicit assertions for behavior that matters.
Pair automated checks with human evaluation
Automated checks are useful detectors, but they cannot fully judge whether a workflow is understandable, whether focus behavior makes sense in context, or whether assistive technology communicates the right information. Include keyboard evaluation and relevant screen-reader checks. Where possible, involve disabled users in usability validation. Cypress’s automation guidance distinguishes automated findings from the human assessment needed for conformance and actual user experience: Accessibility automation principles.
