Cypress Cloud webhooks send selected run events as JSON HTTP POST requests to an endpoint you control. Configure the event and destination in Cypress Cloud, map payload fields into your workflow, and add downstream filters for actions such as Slack alerts, tickets, deployment gates, or internal reporting. Use a webhook when Cypress’s built-in integrations do not provide the wording, fields, routing, or destination you need.
Decide whether you need a webhook
Start by checking whether a native integration already covers the task. Cypress’s built-in Slack integration supports channel and direct-message notifications, run-status choices, flaky-test alerts, tag or run-group filters, and configurable content sections. The built-in GitHub integration reports results through commit checks and pull-request comments. If those options meet your needs, they avoid an extra receiver or automation step. See Cypress’s Slack integration documentation and GitHub integration documentation.
Use a custom webhook when you need different message content, custom conditions, another destination, or a workflow Cypress’s built-in integrations do not cover. Cypress describes use cases including updating a dashboard, opening a ticket, gating a deployment, and forwarding results into an internal system. Its use-case guide was updated September 29, 2026; third-party workflow features and plan requirements can change, so verify them with the destination service. Cypress Webhooks Integration.
Choose the event and destination
Cypress Cloud documents three webhook event types. A completed run can have one of five statuses; make your downstream logic account for all outcomes rather than treating only a failed test run as unsuccessful.

| Event | What it signals | Payload consideration |
|---|---|---|
run.completed |
A Cypress run has completed. Status can be passed, failed, errored, timedOut, or cancelled. |
Useful top-level fields include status, projectName, runNumber, runUrl, totalFailed, and commitBranch. |
run.accessibility.completed |
An accessibility report has completed. | Report data is nested; some workflow builders cannot map nested objects or arrays directly. |
run.uiCoverage.completed |
A UI Coverage report has completed. | Report data is nested; transformation may be needed before passing it to a simple workflow builder. |
For Slack, Teams, or another automation platform, create an inbound-webhook trigger at the destination and use its generated URL as the Cypress Payload URL. Other documented patterns include sending commitSha, status, and runUrl through Zapier, Make, or n8n to a GitHub Actions repository_dispatch workflow; invoking a deployment provider’s build hook only for passing runs; or routing failures into ticketing or incident workflows. These are integration patterns, not guarantees that each service supports every feature on every plan.
Configure a webhook in Cypress Cloud
- In the Cypress Cloud project, open Settings → General → Webhooks, then choose Add webhook.
- Paste the destination’s inbound URL into Payload URL. It must be publicly reachable and accept HTTP POST requests. Prefer HTTPS. Cypress blocks private, loopback, and internal destinations, and does not follow redirects.
- Select one or more event types:
run.completed,run.accessibility.completed, orrun.uiCoverage.completed. - Set a signing secret and, if needed, a custom authorization header. Store the secret securely; Cypress shows it only once. A manually entered signing secret must be at least 16 characters.
- Save the webhook, then use Cypress Cloud’s Send test control to check the destination and payload handling.
Only Project Owners, Admins, and Team Admins can create, edit, enable, disable, test, or redeliver project webhooks. Cypress documents a maximum of five webhooks per project. See the current webhook setup and permissions guidance.

Map payload fields and define conditions
For a Slack Workflow Builder example, configure the workflow to start with a webhook, define data variables using the incoming top-level payload keys, then compose a message from those values. Include a link to runUrl so recipients can open the run rather than relying on text alone. Useful values include status, projectName, runNumber, commitBranch, totalTests, and totalFailed. Cypress’s guide also demonstrates filtering by status or failure count when not every run should trigger the same action. See Cypress’s webhook use-case guide.
Be explicit about the status logic. For example, an alert intended to catch every non-passing run should consider failed, errored, timedOut, and cancelled, not just failed. For accessibility and UI Coverage events, inspect the nested payload shape and use an intermediate transformation step if the destination cannot map arrays or nested objects.

Test the complete path
- Send Cypress Cloud’s synthetic test delivery and confirm that the endpoint accepts the request, parses the JSON, and produces the intended downstream result.
- Exercise your workflow’s conditions, including the statuses or branches that should be filtered out. A successful connection test alone does not prove the conditions behave correctly for your project.
- After enabling the workflow, verify it against a real Cypress run before relying on it for deployments or incident response.
- Review recent webhook deliveries in Cypress Cloud when troubleshooting; the delivery history shows attempt status. A failed or exhausted delivery can be manually redelivered.
Test payloads are realistic but fabricated, and Cypress does not retry test sends. Manual redelivery retains the original event ID, so receivers should deduplicate it just like an automatic retry.
Secure the receiver and handle retries
Verify requests
When a signing secret is configured, verify the X-Cypress-Signature against the raw request body, using a constant-time comparison. Validate the timestamp and reject stale requests as appropriate. The delivery headers also include X-Cypress-Event, X-Cypress-Event-Id, X-Cypress-Event-Version, X-Cypress-Request-Id, X-Cypress-Timestamp, and X-Cypress-Idempotency-Key. Keep the payload URL secret if the destination cannot verify raw-body HMAC, and use its authentication controls where available; this is weaker than signature verification.

Make processing idempotent
Use the stable event ID or idempotency key to recognize a repeated event. The request ID changes for each delivery attempt, so do not use it as the deduplication key. Record processed event identifiers before performing a non-repeatable action such as opening a ticket or starting a deployment.
Return promptly and understand retry behavior
Cypress times out each attempt after 10 seconds. It retries transport or network errors and HTTP 408, 429, and 5xx responses, with exponential backoff and jitter, for up to ten total attempts: the initial request plus as many as nine retries. A completed 3xx response, other 4xx responses, and blocked URLs are permanent failures. Make the receiver acknowledge promptly and do slower downstream work asynchronously where possible. Cypress documents these delivery rules in its webhook documentation.

Troubleshoot common failures
- URL blocked or unreachable: Confirm the endpoint is publicly reachable, not a private, loopback, or internal address, and accepts POST. Use HTTPS and remove redirect-based routing because Cypress does not follow redirects.
- Delivery times out: The endpoint must respond within the 10-second attempt timeout. Acknowledge the request quickly, queue longer processing, and inspect the delivery history.
- Webhook never retries: A redirect or non-retryable client error is treated as a permanent failure. Return an appropriate success response after accepting valid work; use retryable responses only when the request should be attempted again.
- Duplicate tickets, alerts, or jobs: Automatic retries and manual redelivery can repeat an event. Deduplicate on the stable event ID or idempotency key, not the per-attempt request ID.
- Signature verification fails: Compute the HMAC over the exact raw body before JSON parsing or reserialization, use the configured secret, and compare signatures in constant time. Check timestamp handling if stale requests are rejected.
- Slack variables are missing: Confirm that the variable names match top-level payload keys. Accessibility and UI Coverage event reports contain nested data and arrays that Slack Workflow Builder may not map directly; add a transformation step or begin with
run.completed. - Test succeeds but real behavior is wrong: Cypress’s test delivery contains fabricated data and is not retried. Validate the downstream filters and message using a real run before depending on the workflow.
Or skip the browser setup
If a workflow needs a clean screenshot of a page as part of its output or follow-up, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-request screenshot API; it is separate from Cypress Cloud webhook delivery. A GET request returns an image or PDF. Its API accepts consent banners as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. ScreenshotNeo also has an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents.
Example cURL call (replace the URL and key):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use one webhook for more than one Cypress event?
Yes. Select one or more event types when configuring the webhook, then route or filter requests using the event information and payload appropriate to each type.
Does a webhook replace Cypress Cloud’s Slack or GitHub integrations?
No. It is an additional route for custom destinations and logic. Prefer a built-in integration when its supported notifications or reporting already meet the need.
