Cypress Studio cannot record interactions inside Shadow DOM: its documentation lists “iFrames and Shadow DOM are not supported.” You can still test those elements with Cypress. Record the supported parts of a flow in Studio, save the spec, then add a Cypress Shadow DOM query in code.
What Studio can and cannot do
Studio is an interactive way to create or extend Cypress end-to-end tests. It can record supported actions such as clicks, typing, checks, unchecks, and selections, and it supports inline editing of the generated spec. But the Cypress Studio documentation identifies iFrames and Shadow DOM as unsupported for Studio recording. That is a limitation of Studio’s recorder, not a claim that Cypress tests cannot query Shadow DOM.
The documented practical workflow is to record the parts Studio supports and then write the Shadow DOM command directly in the spec. Cypress does not prescribe this exact workflow; it follows from Studio’s recording and editing capabilities and Cypress’s separate Shadow DOM APIs.
Use Studio for the surrounding flow, then add the query
- Open Cypress in Open Mode and start a new end-to-end test, or open an existing spec to extend it with Studio.
- Record the supported interactions around the component—for example, filling ordinary page fields and clicking controls outside the shadow root.
- Save the test. Studio writes its changes to the spec, which you can edit inline or in your usual code editor.
- In the spec, add a Cypress query for the target inside the component’s open shadow root. Choose `.shadow()` or `includeShadowDom` based on the component and selector.
- Run the spec and inspect the Command Log and snapshots if the query or action fails.
Studio is documented for end-to-end testing; Component Testing, Cucumber-style tests, and recording across multiple origins are listed as unsupported. Studio requires internet access and sourcemaps. Studio AI has additional prerequisites: Cypress 15.11.0 or later and a Cypress Cloud account with a linked project. These AI requirements are distinct from manual Studio recording and editing.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a Shadow DOM query
Traverse from a known shadow host with .shadow()
Use `.shadow()` when the test should explicitly locate a particular component host and then search within its shadow root:
cy.get('checkout-panel').shadow().find('button').click()
The selector before `.shadow()` must identify a DOM element that is itself a shadow host. Cypress yields that host’s shadow root, so subsequent Cypress commands such as `.find()` can locate a control inside it. Cypress documents retry behavior while waiting for the element and shadow root, as well as for chained assertions.

Search through shadow DOM with includeShadowDom
For a query that should search through shadow boundaries, set the option on that query:
cy.get('.shadow-button', { includeShadowDom: true }).click()
Cypress also documents a configuration option to enable shadow-inclusive querying more broadly. A per-query option keeps the scope explicit when only selected queries need to cross shadow boundaries.

Which approach fits?
- Use `.shadow()` when you know the host and want the test to show the component boundary clearly.
- Use `includeShadowDom: true` when the query should search through shadow DOM and the selector identifies the intended element.
Cypress documents both APIs but does not prescribe one for every component. In either case, make the selector specific enough to target the intended control.
Run and troubleshoot the test
The host query finds nothing
Check that the selector passed to `cy.get()` matches the host element, rather than a control inside it. `.shadow()` must be chained from the host. Also confirm the component has rendered before the query runs.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The inner element query finds nothing
Verify the selector against the element inside the shadow root and confirm that the component uses an open shadow root. The documented `.shadow()` and `includeShadowDom` examples do not establish compatibility with closed shadow roots; do not infer that Studio can record them.
A click behaves ambiguously in Chrome
Cypress documents a known Chrome issue that can affect clicks after traversing a shadow root. Its API guide shows `.click(‘top’)` as a possible workaround:

Studio does not start or record as expected
- Confirm the project has internet access and sourcemaps, which Studio requires.
- If using Studio AI recommendations, check that Cypress is version 15.11.0 or later and the project is linked to a Cypress Cloud account.
- For an unsupported recording scenario such as Shadow DOM, add the Cypress command to the saved spec instead of expecting Studio to record it.

For capturing a web page as an image or PDF—not for interacting with a Shadow DOM element in a Cypress test—ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. It removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
