Cypress UI Coverage helps you find where an existing end-to-end or component-test suite has not exercised the user-facing interface. Use its report to prioritize an uncovered view or interactive element, add a test that verifies a real outcome, and inspect the next recorded report. It can speed up discovery and prioritization, but it does not guarantee faster test authoring or prove that a test’s assertions are meaningful.

How do I find missing Cypress tests?

  1. Open UI Coverage for a recorded Cypress Cloud run. Scan low-coverage views, elements marked untested, and links the run did not exercise.
  2. Prioritize a gap by user impact. If your application has sign-in, checkout, account changes, or another customer-critical journey, check whether the uncovered view or control belongs to it.
  3. Follow an untested link and decide whether its destination is an owned page within your testing scope. An untested link may point to a page that was never visited in the run; it is a lead to investigate, not automatically a defect or a missing test. Cypress explains that UI Coverage can surface untested views discovered from untested links on visited pages in its Views documentation.
  4. Find the relevant spec, then add a scenario that exercises the interaction and asserts the expected user-visible result. Review selectors, setup, and assertions rather than adding clicks solely to increase a percentage.
  5. Run the suite again and inspect the newly processed report. Confirm that the view and interaction are represented as expected before treating the gap as closed.

UI Coverage is a map for triage, not a quality target. A view’s score is the percentage of its interactive elements tested. The overall score divides tested interactive elements by all interactive elements in included views, so larger views contribute more. Neither score establishes that the assertions check the right behavior.

What does UI Coverage measure?

Cypress UI Coverage analyzes pages visited by end-to-end tests and mounted components in component tests. It captures DOM-state snapshots, identifies interactive elements, and tracks whether Cypress interactions exercised them. Results are grouped into views, generally by URL patterns for end-to-end tests and spec files for component tests. The report can show tested and untested elements and links, as well as untested views inferred from links found on visited pages. See Cypress’s view and component documentation for details.

Can Cypress generate tests for uncovered UI?

Cypress promotes AI test-case generation based on a customer’s own Cypress projects, and its Cloud MCP integration can make UI Coverage data available to an AI agent. Cypress’s April 28, 2026 Cloud MCP announcement says an agent can surface risky untested views and point to the appropriate spec file. That supports assisted gap discovery; it does not establish that an agent will create a correct, maintainable test or reduce authoring time by a measured amount.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

When reviewing generated or AI-assisted code, check that it uses reliable selectors, establishes the necessary state, and asserts the intended outcome. Remove redundant scenarios and make sure the test adds behavior coverage rather than simply repeating an existing interaction.

How should teams interpret gaps and scores?

A low score can indicate untested interactions, but it can also reflect how the report identifies and groups interface elements. Cypress documents cases where controls appear multiple times because identifying attributes vary across snapshots, or where distinct controls can be merged because they share generic identifiers. Interactions that do not use a recognized command may not count. Third-party widgets and out-of-scope destinations can also affect the report.

Use configuration to make the measurement match the application and testing boundary. Cypress documents stable identifiers, significantAttributes, attributeFilters, element grouping, view filters, and declaring additional interaction commands as possible remedies. Dynamic URLs may also create redundant views that should be grouped. Exclude third-party or deliberately out-of-scope destinations when appropriate, but do not exclude owned pages simply to raise a score. Consult Cypress’s UI Coverage troubleshooting guide before changing settings.

Why might a new test not change the report?

  • The report uses old configuration. A report retains the configuration used when it was processed. Cypress warns: “Every run is processed with the configuration that was saved at that moment, so edits you make afterward don’t change an existing report until you reprocess it.” After a configuration edit, regenerate or reprocess the report before evaluating its effect.
  • The interaction was not recognized. Check whether the test uses an interaction command UI Coverage recognizes. If your application or commands require it, configure additional interaction commands as described in the troubleshooting documentation.
  • The element is identified inconsistently. Compare its attributes across snapshots. Add stable identifiers or adjust the documented attribute and grouping configuration where justified.
  • The view boundary is noisy. Review dynamic URL grouping and whether third-party or out-of-scope links belong in the report. Keep in-scope owned pages included.
  • The score is unchanged despite a valid scenario. Inspect the reported element and view, not just the aggregate percentage. A new test may cover a previously exercised control, affect a small view, or fail to match the tool’s interaction model.

How does UI Coverage compare with other ways to find gaps?

Approach What it reveals Best use Trade-off
Cypress UI Coverage Pages, views, and interactive elements exercised by existing Cypress runs, including some unvisited views inferred from links. Finding interface-level gaps in a Cypress suite and triaging them in the context of views. Cypress describes it as a separately purchased premium solution, not included in standard Cypress Cloud plans. Confirm current terms on the Cypress product page.
Traditional code coverage Source-level execution such as files, lines, or statements. Seeing which code ran and identifying code paths not executed. It does not directly identify user-facing controls that tests have not exercised. Cypress presents UI Coverage as complementary in perspective, not a replacement for code coverage.
Manual review of specs and requirements Whether scenarios and assertions address intended behaviors. Checking whether tests verify the right outcomes and requirements. It does not provide the same automatic page-and-element map, and review effort depends on the team and suite.

When deciding whether to use a method, weigh the granularity of gaps it shows, fit with your current test stack, control over out-of-scope UI, CI or AI-agent workflows, and cost. A higher percentage alone is not evidence of better software quality.

What is known about time savings?

Cypress’s product page includes a customer testimonial attributed to Bobby Schmidt, Director of Quality Assurance at Vistar Media, reporting a 35% increase in test coverage within two weeks and saving each QA team member 1–2 hours per week. This is a vendor-published customer result, not an independent evaluation or a typical-outcome guarantee. Cypress’s product material also promotes CI workflows for thresholds or build responses; confirm current product availability and plan terms on its UI Coverage page.
