For repeating cards, a reliable starting point is repeat(auto-fit, minmax(min(100%, 15rem), 1fr)): it creates as many columns as fit, lets them share available space, and avoids a minimum track wider than a narrow container.
How do I make CSS Grid responsive?
Grid is a two-dimensional layout system for placing items in rows and columns. It is especially useful when the relationships between both dimensions matter, or when laying out larger page regions. Start by deciding how tracks should size and where items belong; do not begin with a fixed column count for each device. See MDN’s CSS Grid guide.
For repeated items such as cards, let auto-repeat create as many columns as the available container width permits. Use a minimum track size that suits the content and a flexible maximum so remaining space is shared.
.card-grid {
display: grid;
grid-template-columns: repeat(auto-fit, minmax(min(100%, 15rem), 1fr));
gap: 1rem;
}
The 15rem floor is a design choice, not a standard breakpoint. Adjust it and the gap to suit the content. The inner min(100%, 15rem) keeps the requested minimum from exceeding the grid container on very narrow screens. MDN illustrates the same auto-fit/minmax approach with a 230px example, which is likewise only an example. MDN’s Grid layout tutorial explains the pattern.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When should I use auto-fit versus auto-fill?
Both keywords work with repeat() to generate tracks according to the available space. Choose based on what should happen when the last row has fewer items than the number of tracks that could fit:
auto-fit: lets occupied tracks expand to use available space when there are fewer items than potential tracks. This is often a good fit for card layouts that should fill the row.auto-fill: preserves the available track slots, including empty tracks, rather than collapsing them so occupied tracks expand. This can suit layouts where maintaining the track pattern matters.
MDN’s product-list example uses auto-fill with minmax(200px, 1fr). That minimum is an example, not a universal card width. Preview the result at the container sizes and item counts your design actually uses. MDN’s common Grid layouts guide includes the example.

How should Grid rows handle variable content?
A fixed row height can overflow when an item’s content needs more space. For content-driven rows, give tracks a minimum and let them grow. For example:
.layout {
display: grid;
grid-template-columns: repeat(3, minmax(0, 1fr));
grid-auto-rows: minmax(6rem, auto);
gap: 1rem;
}
Here each automatically generated row is at least 6rem high but can grow to accommodate its content. minmax() sets a lower and upper sizing bound; using auto for the upper bound allows the row to expand. The column tracks use minmax(0, 1fr) so their minimum is not implicitly tied to their content’s minimum size. Choose the row minimum and column setup for the content rather than copying these values blindly. See MDN’s explanation of Grid basics and its layout tutorial.

When should I use a media query?
Intrinsic sizing is usually enough when the only required change is how many columns fit or how wide they are. Use a media query when the layout should change meaningfully—for example, when a narrow page stacks regions but a wider page adds a sidebar. MDN’s common layouts guide demonstrates named grid areas for page structure adapted at a wider size. See the Grid layout examples.
Choose a breakpoint where the content or layout needs to change, not just because a particular phone or tablet model has a certain width. MDN recommends relative units for media-query breakpoints rather than tying them to individual device widths. Read MDN’s responsive design guidance and media query guide.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
For a page with a sidebar, named areas can make the intended structure legible in CSS while keeping the narrow layout straightforward:
.page {
display: grid;
grid-template-areas:
"header"
"main"
"sidebar"
"footer";
gap: 1rem;
}
@media (min-width: 50rem) {
.page {
grid-template-columns: minmax(0, 1fr) 16rem;
grid-template-areas:
"header header"
"main sidebar"
"footer footer";
}
}
The breakpoint and sidebar width here are illustrative. Test where the actual content needs the wider structure, and choose a relative breakpoint unit appropriate to the design.

How do I keep visual layout accessible?
Keep the HTML in a sensible reading order, then use Grid placement to arrange it visually without creating a conflicting sequence. If visual placement makes the next item on screen differ from the next item read by assistive technology or reached by keyboard, users can lose the relationship between what they see and what they encounter. MDN’s common-layout guidance keeps source order to avoid that disconnect. Read the guidance on common Grid layouts.
