For example, print('Hello', end='!') writes Hello!; print('Hello', end='') writes Hello without adding a line break. Without end, print() adds a newline.
How the end parameter works
The built-in function has this signature: print(*objects, sep=' ', end='n', file=None, flush=False). Python writes the objects, separates them using sep, then writes the value of end. The sep, end, file, and flush arguments must be passed by keyword when supplied. Python’s built-in functions reference documents the signature and behavior.
Choose the ending you want
end='n'is the default: end the call with a newline.end=''adds no characters after the printed objects.end=' 'adds a space, so the next output can continue on the same line with a visible separator.end='...'or another string adds that exact string after the objects.
Examples: continue output on the same line
Each print() call below writes its ending immediately after its objects. The final call in each example uses the default newline unless a different ending is specified.
print('First', end=' ') # keep the next output on this line, separated by a space
print('second') # default end adds a newline
print('Loading', end='...')
print('done')
print('No newline', end='')

end is different from sep
end controls what follows all the objects in one call. sep controls what goes between multiple objects in that call. For example:
print('red', 'blue', sep=', ', end='!')This writes red, blue!: sep=', ' separates the two objects, and end='!' finishes the output.

Valid values and calls with no objects
end must be a string or None. Passing None selects the default newline. If there are no objects, print() writes the ending alone; for instance, print(end='---') writes three hyphens. The reference states: “If no objects are given, print() will just write end.”
Output streams and newline handling
By default, print() writes to sys.stdout. You can direct it to a file-like object with a write(string) method using the file keyword. For a binary-mode file object, Python’s reference says to use file.write() instead.

The end value is the string that print() writes after its objects. It is not a setting for the platform’s on-disk newline format. When output goes through a text stream, that stream’s newline configuration may translate n characters. In the usual console case, end='' suppresses the newline added by print(); the stream and environment still govern how text is handled.
Common mistakes and fixes
- Using
endto separate objects: Setsepfor the text between objects; reserveendfor the string after the whole call. - Passing
endpositionally: Use the keyword form, such asprint('Hi', end=' '). - Expecting
end=''to insert a space: It adds nothing. Useend=' 'if the next output needs a visible gap. - Passing a non-string value: Supply a string or
None;Nonemeans the default newline. - Expecting output to appear immediately:
print()has aflushoption. The reference documentsflushas a keyword-only argument; consult it when output buffering matters.
